Holders don't have to be able to call debt for it to be an issue.

It doesn't seem to occur to anyone that $16 Trillion in debt carries $240 billion in interest alone at 1.5%.

If people begin selling that debt and it goes up to 3%, we'll be spending about $500 billion a year on nothing but interest.

You're right! It's even worse to assume we can just dump Texas since it's Texan land and we can't just up and move it to California. Meanwhile Californian companies ARE free to up and move to Texas.

    This is fun.

I'm always hesitant to say education cuts are harmful. Harmful to any teachers who lose their job, sure.

So Republicans are acting like insurrectionists and traitors again? Suprise suprise.

When they win an election, everyone else has to shut up because 'democracy has been served'. They lose, and they are crying about abused rights, socialist horrors and acting like they are being oppressed.

Seriously, take your own advice and shut up. Because democracy has been served.

And honestly, coming from Texas, that's hilarious. Your Governor is so incompetanant that he resorted to mass prayer to fix problems he was responsible. AND THINGS GOT WORSE.

    That IS the context.

The interest rates are low because the market and economy sucks. When the markets and economy start chugging along again, interest rates on debt will go up as people begin to take more risks.

Yup, just a bunch of racist white republicans mad that Obama won.

    US is falling apart.

    Your thoughts?
There is a huge difference between fantasy and reality. There are people out there that want Obama to fail so bad, that they would rather the country fall apart, than not while he's in office. That's how petty and stupid politics have become. People sit behind their computers, are mad that their side lost, and can't process that. So they need to search out ways to let it out. This is just one of those things. Petitions like this, like the ones people champion for blizz changes and anything else are just people crying. Romney could have come out and said "If I'm elected, I am going to bankrupt this country. That is my number one priority and goal.". And alot of the Obama haters would have still voted for him. And that's sad.

And these petitions are hilarious. Let's pretend for a second that one of these states actually succeeds. The second things get tough because they're on their own, they're going to be high tailin' it to the states. People's emotions are alot stronger than their convictions.

You missed the part about mercantile corporate exploitation.

Besides, neither scenario is ever going to happen. The US is stuck with the South and until the federal government forces it to comply with infrastructural standards it will remain poverty stricken.

Interesting to find out what all those African countries the US lent money to in the 1960's feel like, isn't it?

Let's not turn this into a pissing contest. Shall I link to some embarrassing 2000 and 2004 post election stories. Some people on my side are frightened. I'm concerned. But the world turns.

You'd think so, but you'd be wrong. Education cuts limit the output of intellectual capital and decrease social mobility.

Please. The Amendment That Never Was is hardly valid.
It is unlikely the federal government would benefit from losing texas, they would lose a lot of taxes on the eagle fjord shale and texas would become an oil/natural gas nation.
it would really be bad for both parties though, america would become less of a super power and texas wouldn't be part of one anymore, less weight in trade and diplomacy for both.

No, because out of context the number has no relation to anything meaningful. The number gets thrown around because it sounds big and scary.

How could Obama produce results under the circumstances for his last term? He took over shit from the Bush administration. At least Obama's plans are long-term. Something too many people can't see or simply ignore, and instead claim that instant change can be made and last forever.

The recession did not help either. Give it some time, now. I truly believe USA is headed the right way.

Oh, and New Jersey is cutting our education budgets too.

That's meaningless out of context too, so I'll point out that we're laying off teachers because their unions don't want to agree to pay freezes. I wouldn't be surprised if most education cuts around the country were because teachers' unions refuse to admit that "collective bargaining" means "not getting everything you want".

Public sector unions' ability to collective bargain... that's another huge fucking disaster entirely.

What do you mean infrastructural standards?

I get a lot of amusement from the folks who were saying that if Obama won they were leaving the country.

Oh yeah? Where do you plan to go? Somalia? Every other country you'd want to live in is more liberal than the US!
