I was in a newsagents today buying a magazine, and looking up at some of them such as sports mags, swim wear, gay times and celebrity magazines, all with super hot models and actors on the front, I had a pleasant realization.
For many years wow, wow seemed to have perpetuated the idealism of the perfect character, almost on a societal basis of perception as we see every single day, hot guys in shower gel ads, hot girls in perfume ads, and the general consensus of society in the modern, western culture, how you expect to look to be perfect.
This theme seemed to be generated in wow, with all characters, for whatever species they were, such as the muscled and powerful built orcs and tauren, to the perfectly formed humans and blood elves, and even the dwarves for there statue being developed. The whole thing seemed to throw the whole supermodel idealism into the game for all our races being perfect for there kind, no fat orcs or fat humans.
And then, pandaren came along, a race that prizes having a large belly, small paws and big dumpy cheeks. This to me did something new and unique.
As the wow playerbase is consist of so many different kinds of players, fat, thin, big, small, there only ever seemed to be reach to one side of, and, lets be honest, there are some players who are robust as pandaren irl, and yet there hasn't been a race until now that represented it.
Its refreshing, and I'm happy playing my big dumpy pandaren.
