    My new computer.

Hey I'm really wanting a new computer to play WoW and what not on the web. Currently i have a lap top that i have to run WoW on all low settings and i frequently get disconnected. I am wanting a good desktop for 650-850 dollars. I honestly know NOTHING about computers but i know me and my bud can at least figure out how to put one together. Problem lies in not having a clue what parts i need and what parts are good. Was wondering if anyone could help me out, Maybe put a list of parts together for the price range that could easily run WoW on high settings. I know Black Friday is coming up so i figure now is a great time to get this computer dream into reality. I already have a keyboard, mouse, and moniter. I also have a very basic and ugly square case but i wouldn't mind replacing if the budget allows it without sacrifice.

I have had a friend of mine throw a quick list together from Newegg.com to if instead of doing my shopping for me you simply want to tell me what you think of it. If everything i need is there or if there are any improvements that could be made (as long as it stays under or near 850$):

Phenom is outdated and old, not bad by any means, but it's outdated.
750W is completely overkill for a system that won't draw more than 420w
I wouldn't pick a close loop liquid cooler at that budget, the standard cooler is enough even with a slight overclock.
    Your friend forgot a harddrive

    Edit: Here's a better build:

You still have a bit of room to get a better CPU and GPU. I would replace the mobo with a Z77 Extreme4 from Asrock, and an i5 3570k. Then bump your GPU up to a 7850, replace your PSU with something much cheaper, since you don't need that sort of wattage. You also need an HDD, by the look of it. You could also look into a better heatsink for your CPU, but since you probably won't be overclocking soon the stock one should be alright. This would be my suggested alternative if you want to stretch your budget nearer to its limit, inux's should be fine if you want to keep spending a bit on the lower side:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

    CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($219.99 @ Newegg)
    Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($127.98 @ Newegg)
    Memory: Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($47.49 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 2GB Video Card ($191.97 @ Newegg)
Case: Fractal Design Arc Midi Tower ATX Mid Tower Case ($69.99 @ Newegg)
    Power Supply: SeaSonic 520W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($69.99 @ Newegg)
    Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($16.99 @ Newegg)
    Total: $814.39

Yup for sure, A friend of mine actually says he has a hard drive with windows already installed he could give to me. So as long as it fits with the parts these others have listed I should be good to go its a 500gb hard drive other then that i don't got much info. on it yet.

    Here's what I'd go with:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

    CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($219.99 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($26.29 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LK ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($124.24 @ NCIX US)
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($36.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: XFX Radeon HD 7870 2GB Video Card ($189.99 @ NCIX US)
Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 ATX Mid Tower Case ($49.49 @ SuperBiiz)
    Power Supply: XFX 550W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($53.99 @ NCIX US)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (OEM) (64-bit) ($89.99 @ NCIX US)
    Other: Optical Drive ($20.00)
    Total: $870.96
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Unlike builds above, the price includes Windows 8 and a 7870 instead of a 7850. The only downside is that the card is cooled via single fan impeller.

What if the Hard drive he would be giving me is literally a few months old?

they are not talking about the actual hard-drive but the windows installation. You can use a old hard drive but need to install windows again for best performance. Else there will be driver issues even if it does not crash on booting.

not just performance, it likely wont even boot if you dont do a fresh install

Ah ok, i was unaware of that. I figured since it was still more or less new it would work lol. Thanks

actually, is there a way to wipe everything off the hard drive then? Still buy windows to re install on it sort of deal, but saving the 50$ i would have used on a new hard drive, or would it just be safer/smarter to go with all new?

You can just format the hard-drive. That will wipe everything on-it.

    CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($219.99 @ Newegg) => Microcenter has this for $169.99
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($127.98 @ Newegg) =>Purchasing the Processor and MB get you $40.00 off the Microcenter price so the MB would be $94.99

So total for those two would be $264.98 a savings of $83, you could use that to get an SSD driver on top of the 500GB WD Cavier suggested by Yurano.
