    Midwinter's strat on Wind Lord

Many guilds may use this strat, but I'm currently watching their stream, and have seen this. They basically AoE most adds to about 20%, then single target the boss down Until 80%. Our guild basically just aoe's adds down while bouncing cleaves/aoe off the boss the whole time. Does anyone know if there are doing something specific or the purpose of what they are doing?

On heroic the boss takes a 600% damage debuff for 30 sec after a pack dies. If you can get the packs to die in a close time frame that's huge damage for a long time.

it might be to lower the amount of full power rain of blades that he does.

This is the case. You also want the damage increase to come right before you start getting wind bombs so you spend as little time in the phase as possible.

Well, the logic we used was that pretty much every wipe is caused by wind bombs, and he only drops wind bombs below 75%, so ideally you reduce the time you spend sub 75% as possible which means single target boss until 80%, then pop the adds one by one. If done properly, you get 4-5 wind bombs the entire fight.

And yet we still managed to wipe twice to people crashing into wind bombs.

    Go figure.

That's the strat that every single guild that killed this boss on heroic is using. You can't defeat the boss other way really.

Except that our first kill was with a completely different strat, involving killing adds immediately (and killing four sets). Results in a much, much faster kill but 15+ wind bombs by the end.

Obviously this strat is safer and more retard proof (took us 4 attempts more than it should have IMO).

Wow. How many wind bombs did you have in the end using the one-by-one strat?

We definitely aren't the only guild to use the strat we used for our first kill. Looking at logs you can see others, like vodka and Defenestrate.

Anyway, you can realistically have 6-8 Wind Bombs if you push the boss to just above 75% and then do three Reck phases back to back. It's a bomb every 15-20 seconds, so it depends on how close together your phases are etc. On our first kill we kept three of a single add type up and just AoEd from the start to trigger recklessness as fast as possible, which resulted in about 4 mins sub-75%, so roughly twice as many bombs, around 15 like Ganzar said.

On the plus side you get less traps and amber pools since you can CC two amber trappers, and the boss dies a lot faster overall. Definitely requires people to be decent at bombs though.
