To a certain extent, maybe... For example I've never played Diablo 1+2 when it was relevant 10+ years ago and now I just can't get myself to play it precisely because of its graphics.

But this only applies to games that are totally "out" by todays views. I'll take GTA 3 or VC over the last ones any day.

No. Graphics don't bother me. It's easy these days for a game to have decent graphics, special effects, etc, and use those as a crutch for an overall shitty game.

Say a direct sequel for something like Final Fantasy 6 came out today. It's a sequel because it continues the story in some way, is set in the same world, has the same characters, etc, but it's made with the exact same graphics as the original FF6. I'd play it and enjoy it.

    Gameplay is more important.

The graphics only need to be good enough that you can tell what is happening. Unclear graphics can disrupt gameplay.

Depend of the game. Old 8-16 bit yeah no problem. But everything after the 32 bit era or the PC 3D graphic NO WAY.

I love playing mario on snes. But can't make 5 minutes on FF VII or Half Life. 3D games really don't age well (some 2D games too, can play DII no more. And DIII is not as good /sadpanda)

Out dated graphics don't turn me off when playing games, especially when my laptop plays them better than the ones that are getting released. xd

So yeah, I actually prefer shitty quality so my laptop can run it smooth, even so... =p

    Depends on the game really.
I couldnt play really old shooters but there are a lot of old games i still play from time to time like Heroes 3 and some other strategy games.

There are a few games that really haven't aged well, but most of those that i find "unplayable" are from the early 3d era. I have yet to find a single 2d game that has put me off because of graphics.

Outdated Graphics never turn me off. Graphics in general is just more of a bonus, naturally there's a certain expectation depending on the generation of consoles and/or power of the current Gen PC Graphics. But in General graphics don't serve as the main focus of any game, however when deciding between best titles it does teeter decisions.

For example I couldn't decide for a long time between which game was better; Witcher 2 or KOTOR. And eventually it came down to the fact that Witcher 2's Graphics was just so incredibly amazing and I do slightly prefer the more 'Free Swing' Combat style. But if Witcher 2 had fairly crappy graphics, I'd probably still put KOTOR as my NO.1 game of all time.

So yea Outdated Graphics would never be the reason I wouldn't try a game and it certainly doesn't bother me, but better graphics DOES enhance the game as long as all the other aspects are top quality.

It all depends for me, i guess..

If it is a game that i used to play and has a special place in my heart, like FF7, the older Legend of Zelda's, Wacraft 1, and lots of games from the early 90's (Sega Megadrive and such), ill play them gladly.

If it is a game i never played before, i'll hardly pick it up, even if the game turns up to be awesome, but i might never know it..

I love the first Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen, but I can say that knowing the story and everything I probably will never play it again cause of the outdated graphics, same goes for Nox, loved that game. Why don't they just remake old games with new graphics, sure are better games, if you don't include graphics, than today's games.

This. Although for me, FF7's poligonal biceps don't put me off as i have so many fond memories of the game that i just look past it.

Bot for example, every once in a while i buy new batteries for my gameboy colour just to replay Oracle of Seasons/Time, really great LoZ games imo.

No, the graphics aren't something I care much about. I played a lot of Doom 2 and various fanmade campaigns just few months ago, and I found it extremely fun.

Never played Mass Effect 1 or 2 when they were current. Fished ME1 out of the cheapo bin at Walmart a few months back and put it in my 360. Game wasn't ugly by any means of the imagination but the gameplay was just horrendous.

From time to time I turn on my old systems just to play games that were awesome. Phantom Dust, Eternal Darkness, Mech Assault, GoldenEye 64. All good times.

Ocarina of Time I picked up for the 3DS. Got to relive it and it had a graphical update. Win/win in my books.

And just to stir the pot: Super Mario RPG > FFVII

Yes. Thats why I'm not playing FF7 anymore, even though I love the game. Or early Resident Evil games. Or many others.

Not really, my all-time favorite games have old, outdated graphics, eg Mario 64, Metal Slug, etc.

As much as I hate to admit it.. they do.

If you ask me, Ultima 4 was one of the best games every made. I remember spending months and months playing it.

I can´t stomach it for more than a few minutes now.

Old graphics won't turn me off as those are the graphics that were available at the time. Same with like the wii, games won't look good b/c of the power it has(though some a beautiful from an art style perspective). But I don't like playing games that look like utter crap when we're in the year 2012 and they're looking like the devs barely put any effort into em. Unless they're going for a specific style, like a retro feel or something, they should at least make it look pleasing. I'm not asking for super power graphics that require the best video cards to play, but as I said, pleasing at least.

Edit: Older games that don't support 1920x1080 or at least bigger than 1024x768 are hard for me to stomach, especially if they have no windowed option so they don't look super stretched :\

I grew up when best games graphic-wise were Goody and Tetris. I don't mind graphics at all, as long as it has style and as long as it doesn't try to look realistically (and ofc when gameplay is there). E.g., for fantasy game Shining in the Darkness or Might and Magic III-V have great gfx, but same Eye of the Beholder or Dungeon Hack - just no way (gameplay-wise they weren't great either, just overhyped).

The only thing which I count as horrible and outdated graphic approach is ASCII. I could never understand people playing such games (various MUDs and roguelikes), at least some graphical minimum should be there.

You are basically saying two different things ... that's why I agree with this, but not with nostalgia being a bad thing
