    Raiding UI/Mod questions

I'm thinking about trying to do some raiding - I have 2 level 50s and have never done anything with them. Mainly because I hate how hard it is to get information from the UI. I can not stand to do a fight and stare at my bars the entire time.

Could anyone help me with the following...

    • Combat Log - what is available? I've done some Google searches, but it's hard to tell what is current information or best to use.
    • Is there a way to tell when my buff on a target falls off? Right now I just see everything and it's hard to tell what is mine
    • Is there any way to tell when something has proc'd other than staring at my bars?

Combat Log: MoX Parser. Link They keep it up to date and its a reliable overlay if you choose to have it up for you to look at.

Your Buffs: Unfortunately you still have to pay attention and recognize which debuffs on the target are yours :/

Procs: At least for some classes, it will provide an animation on or around your character to signal that the proc occurred, but other than that no.

This is TOR's biggest downfall. The lack of mods, buff/debuff/HoT/DoT timers is beyond retarded. It doesn't allow the content to control the difficulty of the encounter. Instead it relies on the fact that the UI is so antiquated that it alone provides the difficulty within the game.

Beyond that the game is fine, but that's a huge gripe for any serious competitive raider.

I agree, Perkunas. I would love a custom casting bar, a debuff timer and something to alert me when an ability procs. Those are things that have become QoL.

I personally wouldn't dwell so much on these points, but the devs literally promised us mods and macros in beta and have yet to say anything other than soon™.

Ugh.. that's disappointing. I am playing a sniper, and I feel like all I do is stare at my bars to see what is coming off CD and what might have proc'd. It's ridiculous. I'm really bummed out that nothing has changed - this is why I keep quitting. Like the game, but I don't know how any raids that way.

We can only hope that with this new influx of money they are getting from the F2P accounts(one of my idiot buddies already spent 40 bucks on coins...) that they'll push out the features they promised us in beta.

Nope, they will probably keep firing people that do important things until all that is left are people to fill new items in the Cartel Boxes. Since everyone is throwing money at them, they sure aren't going to focus on anything else.

OT: Mox is all you get. Otherwise get ready to stare at your icons and look at the screen every once in a while.

Maybe thats the reason that swtor needs more skill then the average XXX player nowadays provide... Nearly every Specc and specialisation has a optic and sound effect to anounce a procc! My Bountshunter laughs hard when rail shot proccs, mara does something other when the cd on rupture resets.

Over all it just a question of time playing! You will memory the sound or grafic for the reset and will get a feeling how the inner CD is. Also your Dots never really last more then few seconds. A little bit trying to get a feeling for time gone, or simple counting GCD (1.5s) can help with your dots!

Thanks for your condescending post. While you might be happy trying to pick out one faint noise in the midst of the noise of the game and everyone playing in it - I would like something more substantial to go off of.

Also - since you seemed to miss the point entirely - I don't have an issue with the GCD. Snipers have a lot of abilities and cool downs - more than my Sorc and Bounty Hunter. I merely want a more obvious way to know what is off CD, a visual way to tell when something procs and which debuff on the boss is mine - perhaps a filter that only shows my debuff - or making mine bigger - and adding in a timer to the debuff on the boss so I can see when it needs to be reapplied.

Also - while I might not have raided in SWToR - I have raided for 6 years as a hunter in WoW - I have parsed top 10 in the world on many occasions and am in a top 50 US guild. I'm a capable, skilled and experienced raider. I'm not an idiot, I'm not new to games. You're perfectly entitled to your opinion, but don't tell me that I need to learn how to count 1.5 seconds.

@bellatrex - just scanning through so sorry if I misunderstood something but swtor does have cd timers built into the UI. You just have to go into preferences and enable it. Still no way to track procs or icd's though.

More skill? That's a laugh. The content is over simplistic and allows the lack of a solid UI to provide any and all difficulty within raiding. Luckily I find the leveling and PVP enjoyable. If they had a great UI or allowed mods/macros then they could ramp the actual content up and we'd see something more difficult than Looking for Raid difficulty.

Yes, I realize that - but back to my original post and problem - I don't want to spend the entire fight looking down at my bars to see when something is off CD. I would like something at eye level that will count down the CD on things and then go away after that (meaning - I don't want to have to move a bar to eye level just to more quickly see my CDs)

    Ermahgerd HoT Tracker!?!?!?!

The one think that has driven me crazy in ToR was tracking iddybiddyteenytinyzomgmicroscopic buffs and debuffs in raid frames.

Simple fix... make the raid frames the size of your screen!

All kidding aside, I do hate how there is not a true DoT/HoT tracker. Haven't tried TOR Assistant and it looks a little funky to me, but I wouldn't mind someone testing it.

Maybe you got my post wrong, I never tried to insult, just help to find a way around your problems. I'm to raided from BC till complete Cata hard core, parsed as Shadow and Hunter. However, SWTOR don't provide Mods yet, so the way to deal is not begging for customizable mods that tell someone what todo, instead its the question to control your eyes and inner time. I have to whatch my bar, react on the lifted darc overlay on my proccable talents and so on, too. To help you just a bit, try to overlay a bar with your proccable talents only in the middle of the screen like you would do with powerauras. This bar dont need hotkeys, it could actually be a bar only for showing stuff. with a sufficent transparent setting this bar can actually help you monitroing this importend CDs for you.
If you don't see which is your dot on the enemy because there may be a second player with this specc, then yes you should start to count GCD's. Either that or just accept that you will perform low because you can't identify which is your dot and which is the one of your comrade.

@Perkunas: The moment ther will be Boss-Mods, they have to race against them. The same that blizzard tried severly ways. They lost this race the moment mods learned to lay over actual grafics to show players where to stand, where the cleave zones are and so on. Blizzard reacted the way to close another api. However in the long run the bossfights got ridiculous high requirements. Show me are really good performing guy that dont use any boss, cast, debuff and rotation helper! And thats the point I really like for swtor - no mods tell the player where to watch, what to predict, that they actually have to despell that debuff and so on. Players will have to actually manage that themself! Thats a higher skilllevel as to get named what to press, what to expect from the boss, aggro level showing..etc.

@Both: YES, I would also like to highlight my buff and debuffs and friends an enemies. I struggle to when it comes down to more comrades with the same specc. However I count GCD's if want to perform well till they implement more GUI options. But till that, I searched a way to play around those issues instead demanding on them and call the game bad, because I miss that luxus from another game. I don't call someone bad - nevertheless there are people that can adapt easier that other and people that don't like to adapt at all. And these last named players I can't stand at all.

Yes, Blizzard is making content with mods in mind and frankly it makes the PVE game far better. The game has to rely on it's on mechanics and not the UI to create the skill gap and that simply makes a better PVE game. Not all modes should require this level of dedication that I'm asking for because TOR has multiple difficulty levels. Also, mods like DBM in TOR would be redundant because of how overly simplistic boss fights are currently. They telegraph everything. It's almost as if it's(DBM) already built into the game. Further, information is supposed to be king and keeping buff and debuff information in tiny little icons on a raid frame that are nearly impossible to see without making the frames the size of the screen is idiotic. If you honestly believe it takes skill to tunnel on your cast bar and raid frame you have no idea what skill is. I'm not even asking for a threat meter. I simply want Grid and mouse-over casting. The shitty raid frames and healing like it's old-school Everquest have transformed healing into something that's no longer enjoyable.

I smoked all the content released Nightmare and all for the first 3 months of release which was when I initially quit. The raid difficulty was utterly laughable and the only reason we had any challenge at all was because we carried 3 borderline retarded people in our 16-man. TOR relies too heavily on having a terrible interface to provide it's challenge. Let's face up to the facts here. If basic mods and macros were implemented the devs would not get away with their Warcraft Looking for Raid level difficulty that's currently the standard. This is my entire point though. Should a world-class hockey team have to be blindfolded in order to play against a peewee team? Why should players suffer archaic game systems just because the devs are too lazy to make compelling and difficult content? An even better question is why they hell are you defending such an idiotic stance? I'd venture it's Dunning-Kruger.

    Pretty much this:

From looking at the UI that's currently in the game it's as if you don't have the input of a single healer on your team and that needs to be remedied quickly. Certain things would go a long way to make healers happier and better raid frames and information displaying would be a great step to take. I'm also making a plea for Click-to-cast or mouse-over healing macros to allow us to heal without having to drop our current target. For those of you not familiar click-to-cast and mouse-overs bind certain heals to a combination of key and mouse clicks that you use on your raid frames. It saves healers a step in having to click the target then hit the heal. We can simply hover over our selected target, press our click for the heal we want and the heal casts without dropping your current target. It can shave minutes off of an average raid night. This is an important thing when your encounters make you pay attention to your environment and you can't afford to tunnel.

I'm a big fan of content that's not stand and spam. I want things like positioning, movement, resource management, and complex rotations to play a part in the healing game, and I'm afraid that with your UI as it is you're counting on it(the UI) being the most difficult challenge your healers are meant to face. A good game let's it's content push it's healers and it doesn't rely on battling the UI to create a false sense of difficulty. As a healer and a progression raider looking for a new home I'm begging you, Bioware... Please... Push the mods/macros/add-ons out as fast as you possibly can. At the very least include these things I've mentioned as options within the default UI and allow far more customization. Hell, give me a meter of some kind to judge performance so I wont have to rely on an out of game parser reading the combat log at launch. I want to get the most from my character and I'd rather do it with tools that are in the game by default.

People want the difficulty of the game to come from the content itself and not stumbling through a terrible base UI.

Maybe i should name it just again - I dont defend obvious lacks in GUI design (Buff / Debuff, Raidpanel).
    Mouse-Over is already possible: http://mmo-mechanics.com/swtor/forums/thread-1153.html

Regarding LFR / story mode - I think we dont have to talk about that. They are what they are story, undeniable brain afk game experiences. But the point where Blizzard provide better PVE game is undiscussible. Thats a opinion and not measurable. Everyone has it owns criteria and have to decide themself. In my humble opinion the design from blizzard lacks fun and challenge (when you use normal mods any top guild nowadays dictate). SWToR lately goes the same direction in encounter design, to become more like a technical dance instead of a real, lively encounter.
