Random Battleground: which Servers?

So I just transferred from Ravencrest to Outland. The time I was playing on Ravencrest, I never joined a random Battleground with players from Outland in it. Now, that I'm on Outland I keep joining Battlegrounds with players from Ravencrest...Ravencrest and Outalnd are not even in the same Realmpool!?!?
I don't get it...

So please answer this:
What happens exactly when I join "Random battleground" on an English European Server? Have all EU-Servers merged into one HUGE Realmpool?
