    Looking for a new game

Hey my fellow gamers, i'm looking for a new game to play on my pc and i have no idea of what to play but i do know what i am looking for.

I play WoW on a regular basis and it is just about the only game i play. The thing is, i am getting a little burnt out and need something that will refresh me. I am interested in trying out other RPG's. (Singleplayer preferrably) I am not a big fan on First Person View but i have been thinking about giving Skyrim a try or buying Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning due to hearing positive feedback about it. I also like strategy games with a passion, i played so many of them but i cant find a decent one to play. Played SC2 and it did not really grab my attention. Viva Pinata, maybe something not so kiddie even though it is a awesome game. i cant deny that. Is there anything like that?

ON to a new game. I am looking for something new. RPG or Strategy. I dont like many other genres and these 2 are my favorite. I would like a game with a good story to it, fun gameplay, cinematics (WoW for instance), Graphics are a minor thing but i would like them to be decent. Some replayability to it and if so i would like it to be different everytime i play it (not a big deal to me though) Singleplayer game is really what i want though. A little multiplayer will be fine but i want the singleplayer mode to be the KEY of the game.

Thats really it, Fun gameplay and a good story are a must though. That's all i really care about. It also must be a RPG or Strategy. Help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in Advance!

I usually never like FPS games. But Borderlands 2 has gotten me absolutly hooked. Awesome fun gameplay, with badass storytelling etc. Makes this game an insane gaming experience.

This is a Mission Giver, and your mission: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ld1GCN0LvZI
And this is the Class I play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0smeO__OSPg

    This game has ENDLESS replayability

Well, if you want some RPGs...

Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
    Arx Fatalis (1st person)
    Baldur's Gate
    Deus Ex (FPS/RPG hybrid)
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (1st person)
    Fallout
    Final Fantasy (6-9)
    Gothic
Might & Magic (1st person, party based)
    Neverwinter Nights
    Planescape: Torment
    System Shock (FPS/RPG hybrid)
    Vampires The Masquerade (1st person)
    The Witcher
    Wizardry (1st person, party based)

And while Dark Souls is definitely a great game, I wouldn't recommend it to a person who "plays WoW on a regular basis and it is just about the only game (s)he plays". But you never know, you might actually like it. It's essentially a single player game, but it still has a very prominent and unique multiplayer component to it, you just have to experience it for yourself to udnerstand.

And here are some strategy games (both RTS and TBS), though I rarely play them myself nowadays.

    Age of Empires
    Age of Wonders
    Civilization
    Command & Conquer
    Disciples
    Dungeon Keeper
    Galactic Civilizations
    Haegemonia
    Heroes of Might & Magic
    Homeworld
    Majesty
    Master of Magic
    Master of Orion
    Sacrifice
    Stronghold
    Supreme Commander
    The Settlers
    Total War
    X-COM/UFO

Dark Souls isnt really my taste because of the difficulty. I've played games like that and it makes me want to punch a wall.

I just cant get into borderlands 2. It feels bland (played it on my brothers xbox) and i never really enjoyed full time First person view. I like to be able to see my character in badass armor and such. I will watch some videos to see if i will try it again.

More suggestions would greatly be appreciated. I thank everyone who has posted
    Happy Turkey Day!

Not sure if you've tried it but there is Dragon Age origins, on sale on steam to, dirt cheap with all the DLC

Hmm...The Witcher 2 is pretty good
    Kingdoms of Amalur aint bad

Elder scrolls games are usually top for rpgs morrowind/oblivion/skyrim

As for Strategy games I would highly recommend Medieval 2 Total war preferably with the Kingdoms expansion. It's awesome Plus there are full overhaul mods of the game out there. One makes it all LOTR, another Warhammer etc.

Yeah i was considering skyrim as one of my choices, is it worth the money? I mean does it have what i want as said in my OP.
The witcher 2 also sounds pretty decent, i've heard of it but never really read or watched videos on it. I'll check out the witcher 2 though.

I've played Dragon Age and Mass Effect. Mass Effect was fun due to it being kind of like KOTOR (old xbox game). Dragon Age was your generic RPG game imo.

If you don't mind slightly old graphics, you should strongly consider Might and Magic VI/VII, which were already recommended in this game. All current RPGs are mostly about graphics. Especially if you also play WoW - Might and Magic (non Heroes) series are what made games like EverQuest and WoW to ever exist.

And Heroes of Might and Magic is your turn-based strategy. I think everyone will agree that HoMM III is best of all games in Heroes series.

I would like a game with a good story to it Skyrim has that for sure, It's an Elder scrolls game, what do you expect?

fun gameplay Very fun, Me and many other people have clocked hundreds of hours on it

cinematics No real in-game cinimatics, there are 'cinematic' moments that sometimes happen around you, there is also the kill-cams.

Graphics are a minor thing but i would like them to be decent. Very good graphics, and if you get it on pc, you can get even higher resolution texture packs

Some replayability to it and if so i would like it to be different everytime i play it (not a big deal to me though) Skyrim has mere infinate amount of replay ability. Thousands of quests and you can do whatever you like in terms of charcater. maybe on eplay through you want to be a nord warrior, maybe an argonian that specializes in daggers and restoration magic? Your choice.

Have you played Warcraft 3? An RPG RTS game in one, awesome too. If you haven't played Skyrim then I would recommend that. I know a lot of people say Morrowwind but personally I found it was too dated for me to be able to play it, I put some good time into it just before Oblivion came out and it just didnt grip me (I still bought Oblivion based on Morrowind though and I loved Oblivion), the graphics while good for the time haven't aged well and the actual gameplay is completely bollox compared to Oblivion and Skyrim. Skyrim truly is one of the greatest games ever released, it deserves every bit of hype it had and if you haven't played it then you're in for a treat.

Deus Ex 1 or 3, Gothic 1 or 2, Fallout 1,2,3, Skyrim, Mass Effect series, Witcher 2, Risen 1 are some solid choices. Also, if you would like to try a different genre, play Thief 1 or 2. They are a genre of their own, and no one was able to really make something that is really the same category. Dishonored came close though.

I wouldn't recommend Skyrim, as OP wants RPG or Strategy. TES series were never RPG, only were label'd as such. It's pure 3D Action with quite generic and always auto-scaling world. And for many people "auto-scaling" breaks the game, especially if such game labels itself as RPG. I remember reading about Skyrim in thinking to give it a try, but when I saw things similar to "skip this newbie quest and do it at max level or you will skip on one of best weapons in game", etc., that's meh. Also I am not sure if Skyrim continues style of Morrowind in dungeon design, but 1-2 rooms, sometimes with couple mobs in it =/= dungeon. Sure there are like couple dozens of such "dungeons", but they all just feel quite generic.

Oh almost forgot, you could look into Disgaea series. They are of SRPG genre , Strategy/RPG. You have Item World if you want randomness outside of preset storyline and bonus places, and a lot of ways to improve your characters (lv. 9999? Transmigration? Combining Specialists? "Breeding" pupils to buff main fighting team? Felonies?). And if you think you ever achieved anything in Disagaea, there's always more, especially if you have munchkin inside you, as this game has very high caps for everything. Some people managed to reach damage cap in Disgaea 4, which happened to be 184 quadrillions. These games don't have that good story though, and full of quite black humor (especially Disgaea I: Hour of Darkness, it's worth playing for it's sick humor alone).

The risen 1 is not a strong pickup tho, i wouldn't pick it up as a solid choice at all, like if you want extremely good experiences you can play most games presented here over those ones, maybe borderlands 2 will bore you out if you play it solo and/or played borderlands 1, game's full of passive abilities :C.

Honestly if you haven't tried it, you can't really knock on it. And it is an RPG. It's an open world were you can roleplay any charcater you want and make many choices so it is an RPG. People have this weird notion that RPG's have to have certain features and tons of number crunching to be an rpg. Also the OP is getting/likes Kingdoms of Amalur which by your logic would be the king of 3d action non-rpg rpg's.

And how is Skyrim generic? Elder scrolls is one of the fantasy universe that are anything but generic. As for the skip thing...I have never seen that mentioned nor even seen that once. As for dungeons, thre are hundreds of them, and each ones consist of sometimes hundreds of rooms, multiple area, levels, heck one dungeon known as black reach, is so large (and amazingly awesome and unique looking ) that it took me hours to explore all of it.

So ya, get real facts and evidence before you post stuff or at least try it yourself first.

How is it not an RPG? It's a role playing game, where you play a role, do quests, kill dragons, talk to and interact with NPC's, explore an open world while progressing through a storyline. For someone who hasnt played it to suggest someone else doesn't play it is ridiculous. Skyrim is amazing, if you haven't played it then you really don't have anything to say on the matter.

I played TES series starting from Arena till Morrowind and didn't give Skyrim go because TES just has it as it specific style - auto-scaling, very awkward wrists-breaking combat and world feeling devoid of any life as a whole. Some enjoy this style, some not, but it is not RPG'ish really.

Role-play is very bad term to use. Pure role-play alone (with making quests) = Quest genre, currently dead genre, as role-play doesn't assume any kind of gameplay at all. Killing dragons also doesn't make game automatically RPG. What concerns afore-mentioned "number-crunching", it is core of RPG and defines character progress, management of character's development. Remove any relevance of numbers from RPG and we will have some other genre. Auto-scaling basically makes character's development being null and void, and any stats becoming meaningless. Couple it with quite arcade combat system like in TES, and it is not really RPG at all.

It is hard to give good example of modern RPG outside of two specific "subgenres" - MMORPGs and ARPGs. But RPG analog of Skyrim would be Arcanum, which also has open world and a lot of quests. But combat doesn't break your wrists or deprivate your character from sleep, so he wouldn't "level up" together with whole world. Btw, Arcanum was already suggested here, and I would greatly recommend it as well.

First off in some cases Auto-scaling could be a good thing.

Also wrist-breaking combat? the hell are you on and where can I get some? Skyrim has the best combat out of all the games so far. 1000x better than say morrowind where if you are a low level, you can slash at a grub at your foot or a bandit like 7 or 8 times before hitting the damnable thing. Skyrim is better, why? It's more realistic.

Also devoid of life? Please tell em where you heard this cause I know you haven't played the game. Skyrim is full of life, from hundreds of npcs traveling the roads, roving bands of giants and their mammoths, thieves, banidts, tons of wild life, heck even catchable butterflies.

You do also realise teh sleep to level up is gone right? The game forces you to level up, whether you choose to spend your perks points you got from leveling is a different matter entirely.

Why do I have to repeat myself?

You haven't played the game. You're just sitting there and telling me that Skyrim managed to be widely considered one of the best games of all time without moving forward from the version you played from a decade ago. You're sitting there and basically looking at Skyrim and seeing the word "Morrowind". It isnt Morrowind, Skyrim is a massive step over Oblivion which was a massive step over Morrowind. Systems have changed, the gameplay has changed, the graphics have changed, everything has changed, the ingredients are different, they are very similar but they are different. No ammount of talking about the systems can justify any discussion about this game without playing it, experiencing it. Skyrim is a masterpiece, where in my opinion Morrowind was not (though it is well loved by some)

Skyrim is an action/adventure RPG. You can't use your opinion of a game from ten years ago as your basis of advice on a game from the present that you haven't played, most ridiculous thing i've ever heard.
