Computer crashes after 10 minutes of gameplay.

Hello! I'm using an Asus G53SX -> http://www.inet.se/produkt/1969334/asus-g53sx-sz016v (in swedish, sorry, pretty obvious what's what though). I've had it for a year now, with no problems until recently. The screen stopped working, so i sent it for repairs, and a few days after i got it back it has started to behave... Shitty, to say the least.

I can start pretty much any game (Skyrim, SWTOR, GW2 etc) and after about 10 ish minutes, everything stops, sound goes on a short repeat (you know, the regular "i'm crashing" computer sound) and the screen goes black for a minute or two, then it reboots. I have tried changing Nvidia drivers, several times, since it seems like other people had this problem after some recent driver updates, however, nothing has helped. Windows repair only comes up with the following:

    Problem type: BlueScreen
    OS-version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
    Language-ID: 1053

    More information about the problem:
    BCCode: 116
    BCP1: FFFFFA80042444E0
    BCP2: FFFFF880101D6630
    BCP3: FFFFFFFFC000009A
    BCP4: 0000000000000004
    OS Version: 6_1_7601
    Service Pack: 1_0
    Product: 768_1

Files that may help describe the problem:
    C:\Windows\Minidump\112312-31746-01.dmp
    C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-71245-0.sysdata.xml

I am pretty much lost, I heard the CPU might be busted, but the temperature seems fine (Using HWmonitor)
I'm about to make a system restore, but before i do that i thought i'd might aswell check here Otherwise, it's probably off to repair, again...
    Well, shit.

    Hey Athaner,
Just taking a quick look at the thread here.
I'll step in and say it's most likely a video problem. If the GPU isn't dying, then the first thing to check is the drivers and make sure your PC is entirely up-to-date.

When removing your old drivers make sure you remove them COMPLETELY. A free program like Driver Cleaner Pro or Driver Sweeper should work, it just digs deep to make sure nothing remains of the old driver's files. Remove all drivers for the video card THEN try installing the new drivers, or possibly the drivers that came with the CD that should have come with the laptop you've ordered.
You can also try a restore to see if that helps if this doesn't work.
Lastly, it's only a year old, so hopefully it might still be under warranty. If the GPU is dying then there's really nothing you can do.

EDIT: Also, since you said people have had problems with the new drivers, possibly try rolling back to the old drivers when your system did work. It's worth a shot.

    Reformat IMO.

Here's some information on bluescreen you may/may not find useful.

Yeah, only do this as a last resort. If it's a newer driver causing an issue, or if the GPU is dying, this wouldn't solve the problem. Best bet is to try figuring out the issue here first, then after all other options have been exhausted move all valuable information to a backup drive and THEN re-format.

The problem with laptops is that, when one part fails, often other parts start to fail too. You said your screen stopped working. This can both have been a sign of, and a cause for the other parts to start to fail. If for some reason you got a electricity spike in your screen, most likely your videocard is damaged in the process. Since laptop usually have everything onboard, when one part fails, others start to fail too. Often memory is shared by the CPU and GPU, when this memory is damaged and you put a lot of stress on it with videogames also the operating system will get problems and eventually crash.

You could try to do a memory test, since this is often the only part that can easily be replaced in laptop. Try downloading from www .memtest. org, make a bootable cd and boot the laptop with it. If your memory is fine, I guess your videocard is the culprit.

Have you checked your RAM? I used to have the same problem. Turned out to be 2 bad sticks of RAM.

Download and run http://www.memtest.org/ to check for problems.

Sounds very much like a graphics card issue. Take it back and get them to repair it. My experience with inet support hasn't been that great, but keep pushing and they will do it eventually.

And just so you know temperatures aren't really a good way to test it. The damage might already be done regardless of temp.

If your computer is overheating it usually doesn't show a blue screen at all, usually your screen will flash red then the whole computer will just shut down. FYI

    Hi Guys,
Code 116 actually refers to the graphics settings in connection to the programs those which are using your graphics card. So not only an update can solve this problem but many times updates are made for the graphics card driver but still code 116 may remian.
So if this happens after an update then please check your graphics settings which you will find in : 1) Nvidia Configuration 2) ATI Catalyst Centre.
dont mess with the settings which will severe the problem. Make all graphics option to default and while playing games or watching HD allow the application to control and adjust the best performance settings for your system.
Also Processor, MOBO and Memory module affects much to this graphics code error. Blue screen do not only happens for graphics card or Windows but other hardwares may also have its hand on it.
If you feel nothing has changed after you have done all these then please contact a hardware specialist for resolving this issue. Because its after all your precious Computer which cost.

    Thank You.
    Regards.

Thank you for all he quick replies! Tried a few soloutions, like Memtest, couldn't get it running properly though. I'll try it all out, and tell you if anything works!

With memtest, the best thing is to get the bootable iso, burn it to a CD and boot your computer with it. Like this, it can test all the RAM and not just the part windows isn't using atm.

I once had strange values when using HWmonitor, maybe download RealTemp as well, just to have a comparison.

It seems to be working fine now, not overly convinced though :P Thank you very much everyone for the help! Driver Sweeper solved it, after a bit of work. Feels weird though, since the drivers are where i started looking (and spent 3 days reinstalling, trying different soloutions etc). Anyways, have a great day, and merry christmas and all that stuff!
