3DS Friend Codes.

I just recently purchased a 3DS, all was well until I tried adding friend codes. Every single friend code I have tried says invalid, the person who tried to entire my code said it was invalid. I reset my 3DS to factory defaults and it did the same thing. It says i'm connected to the internet, and I can go into the web browser no problem. Should I go back to gamestop and have them replace it?
