I agree with the devs on this. I feel that films like Alien or Blade Runner would have greatly benefited from the magical "poop" factor.

Well, various excretions and bodily functions are certainly part of the horror of the "Alien" franchise. Vampire poop is discussed at considerable length in both Justin Cronin's bestselling novel "The Passage" and the Guillermo del Toro/Chuck Hogen "Strain" series. "Blade Runner" didn't explore robot poop, but it certainly dealt with robot sex.
Max Brooks explored the processes of zombie poop in his "Zombie Survival Guide" and "World War Z." He decided that the zombie instinct to feed was not driven by a viral infection of the brain, but not by nutritional concerns, and that zombies had no functional digestive systems, so they were just constantly pooping undigested flesh.
