Cheap Work Laptop (max 400 euros)

Christmas is coming, and I have enough presents saved up for a new laptop.

    Requirements:

    Long battery life-time
    HDMI/VGA out

    Price: max 400 euros.

Doesn't need to play any intensive games, will be mostly used for office work, watching movies...I have my desktop for gaming.

I was thinking about a tablet, but I need it for university and powerpoint presentations, and I don't know how that works with android or iOS, and I don't have the money for a Surface with keyboard cover.

10" an option for netbook? got some more specifics regarding screen size/resolution perhaps?

  3. #3
10-12" is fine, dont want to go below 720 or 768 px resolution. Any bigger screen size than 12-13 inches tends to kill battery life-time.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16834230599? (know its a US sale but something like that would be good right?) also what EU sites you got acces to for ordering?

edit : nvm just noticed it is 15,6" way too big, still could use some sites to help the searching to what is available for you.

How do the mobile processors compare? I'm up to speed on desktop CPUs, but am out of my depth when it comes to mobile hardware.

    I can order from mindfactory.de and amazon.de

mobile ones are pretty close actually but maybe with the budget you can get an i3 13"? (or that overkill in performance?)
more specifics and sites would help

Those two look good, but they only get 3 hours usage time - two 90 minute classes without being able to plug it in and I'd possibly be looking at a low battery status warning. You have both given me some ideas to mull over, so thank you for that, I'll get back to you

I've got an external 4000 mAh charger with me almost all the time, I use it for my phone, camera, iPod & Nexus 7. Not sure if you could get something similar

I've been thinking, and came across this piece of equipment:

    Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook 530U3C A06 for 599 euros.

    Link: http://www.notebooksbilliger.de/sams...tra+530u3c+a06

Is going up to that price category going to be noticeable/worth it?

    Intel® Core™ i3- 2377M Prozessor 2x1.5GHz
    4GB DDR3 1333MHz (expandable to 2x4GB)
    13.3" screen, 1366*768 resolution
Intel HD 3000 graphics, 1GB shared memory
    500GB HDD, 5400RPM, 24GB SRT Cache
HDMI, USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0, micro VGA, card reader, RJ45 LAN socket, multicard reader
    6.5 hours battery life.

entry level ultrabook is worth it over normal netbooks yea.
http://www.notebooksbilliger.de/ultr...ultrabook+u310 perhaps? (i do hope they have a black/grey version for you ) cpu "ULV" is worth it for more battery life and a caching ssd.

I'm not too proud to refuse a pink laptop, but I'll agree it isn't the most neutral colour

I'll see if I can find a non-pink one for a similar price elsewhere.

i dare you to carry/use a pink ultrabook with pride then!
however the color might be the reason it is that cheap ,who knows :P

edit: may be pushing budget but http://www.notebooksbilliger.de/ultr...99ge+ultrabook (dedicated gpu if you'd like that and red ones go faster!)

I'm all for preventing breast cancer, the world doesn't need to lose more boobs to mastectomies. Single right now, I'd hope to find somebody that isn't as superficial to want to be with me because my laptop has a metallic pink cover :/

    well played sir.
all good things come in time they say. (i personally question the definition of time being within a lifetime though )
OT: red one wasn't what you were looking for right?
