Please review my PC setup before building

Hey, my name is Eryk and I'm looking to build my first gaming PC. I've done some research but I still have some questions.
These are the parts I am looking to put into my PC. Please let me know if there are any problems or complications.

    Cpu: Intel i5 3570k here
    Mobo: Asus Sabertooth Z77 here
    Case: Corsair 600T here
    Cooler: Corsair H100 here
    Psu: Corsair TX750 here
Video Card: EVGA GTX 680 here
CD Drive: Asus DVD burner here
Memory: 16gb Corsair Vengeance 1600 here
    Monitor: Asus VH242H here
Hard Drive: 256Gb ADATA SSD here

I'm still deciding whether I should go with an SSD or just a 7200rpm HDD.
I am not looking to overclock this computer that much (probably around 4.2 GHz).
Will this cooler be alright with just a pull configuration on top of the case and the other 2 stock case fans?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Nice setup. SSD everytime man! Its the single best upgrade you can do for speed then just get some 1tb drives as data drives. If you can afford it id upgrade the ram to http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820231587 if your board supports 2400mhz

i5 3570k OC with ease, you can get a stable 4.4 ghz Oc with 44x100 and volts between 1.25.-1.3 and push pull the rad on the H100

The board supports 1866 ram but i think 1600 is good enough, and it is the most common.

Unfortunately the case will only fit a pull set up for the radiator mounted on top. Adding fans below the radiator will not clear the ram

Replace the z77 Sabertooth with an ASRock!z77 Extreme4.
You dont need 16GB of RAM
The PSU is overkill, go with a 550w

you can get EVGA 680 FTW or superclocked version for same price here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130793 or here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130779
monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236262 check this one( IPS panel with little 3d addition just for 100$ higher price)
i5 3570 clocks @ 4200 easily with stock cooler so you will be fine for sure with low temps and 24/7 running at this speed

P.S. i recommend getting an SSD, it turns pc to very comfortable level

The only thing extra I recommend is an extra HDD for storage. Other than that it looks like a perfect build for a gaming computer.

I don't believe in overkill on a computer so your 16GB of RAM and 750W PSU is fine IMO.

You won't ever use more than 8GB in games, 750w is a waste of money & overkill

Since it looks like a premium build, why not go for 3770k?

There's no difference between i5-3570k & i7-3770k in games, why would you?

Like I said, I don't believe in overkill when it comes to computers.

You can't say you won't "ever" use more than 8GB at a time because programs are constantly evolving and require more RAM. Maybe he multi-tasks while games. I often find myself using more than 8GB of ram between a game, multiple browser windows, other programs, ect. 16GB is $68 while 8GB is $42, might as well just future proof and get 16GB.

On the PSU, me might not use 550W now or ever. You don't really know for sure what will happen down the road. A Corsair 750W Gold is $145 and a Seasonic 550W Gold is $90. So we are talking $55 more which is a decent amount. But on an already $1400 computer minus RAM and PSU costs, an extra $55 isn't going to break the bank for a quality PSU that will probably never be maxed out and lost a hell of a long time.

IMO spending the extra $82 dollars and getting 200W more power and 8GB of ram is well worth the money. The OP asked to give an opinion on what he is looking to buy. You gave yours I gave mine. No need to argue about it. After all in the end it's his money being spent not yours.

Most of the OP's selections don't help at all in games: Sabertooth Z77, H100, TX750 and 16GB of RAM. The 3770K is binned slightly higher and the hyper threading could potentially be useful.

H100 for a mere 4.2ghz OC = massive waste. A Hyper212/Gaia could easily do that. Hell, even stock cooler could potentially do that while keeping temps below 90c.

I agree inux94, 16gb of ram would be overkill. If you are going to spend that much on a PSU, I would go for the Seasonic 650X Modular or the 750X if you wanted that big of a PSU.

H100 for a mere 4.2ghz OC = massive waste. A Hyper212/Gaia could easily do that without the fuss of mounting a huge radiator. Hell, even stock cooler could potentially do that while keeping temps below 90c. The thing with H100 is that when it comes to idle temps and moderate overclocks it's actually on par, sometimes even behind most air cooling solutions. It's only when you crank up the OC's to 4.6-4.8ghz+ when it truly shines and comes out on top.
For testing purposes I cranked a 5.0 ghz overclock @ 1.48v (never again, my poor chip), turned H100 fans to full and temps never crossed ~68-70c on P95, while most cheaper air coolers would've been screaming at 85c+ at those volts.

Anyway back to the rest of the rig, just stuff that people have already pointed out...

    - Z77 Sabertooth is pointless unless you REALLY love the looks that much and are willing to pay 2x the price of an ASRock Extreme4 which has 95% of Sabertooth's features.
    - TX750 is a bad idea, the cables are a huge spiderweb and it's overkill for a single 680. And if you were even thinking of SLI, think again because you're using a 1080p 60hz monitor for which a 680 is already overkill. Look up Seasonic G Series 550w on Newegg, buy that. Or Seasonic X-Series 660w Gold at the most if you wanted more room.
    - Use low-profile RAM, those huge spiky heatsinks have been proven to be mostly pointless/flimsy. Corsair offers low-profile versions of Vengeance.

    - Since you're going for a big-budget build I would recommend a 120hz monitor. I don't know how serious you are about gaming or even what games you play...but if you're doing anything competitive or fast paced, it doesn't get much better than this:

    a) BenQ XL2420T - 120hz, 1080p, 24" - $426

    b) Asus VG278GE - 144hz, 1080p, 27" - $488

SSD - That's actually a really nice deal for 256GB, not bad reviews either. Good find.

Maybe he wants a h100? It keeps the computer less dusty and is eye candy at the same time. If you are looking for higher quality psu, buy hx or ax series from corsair

  16. #16
The H100, RAM, PSU and mobo are all overkills. H100 is simply a waste of money for your use. I suggest buying ~50$ (max) air cooler instead. As many have stated, 16GB ram is useless for gaming. Should you need more in the future, it's only going to get cheaper and cheaper as time goes on. 8GB is the way to go for a gaming setup. As for the PSU, 550W is enough. Seasonic modular power supplies are great. No point in buying "futureproof" PSU since components are only going to consume less energy in the future. You can get all the features you'll ever need from a motherboard in AsRock Extreme4. Sabertooth is just a waste of money. No point in paying for stuff you don't need.

Don't even think of skipping SSD in a build like this. It isn't even that expensive and the speed it brings is unfathomable. However, change the model to Samsung 830 series. It's as fast as any other SATA3 SDD (only difference you'll see is benchmarks) but it's one of the most reliable.

As for the GPU, I'd personally go with a Radeon 7970 which is on par with the GTX 680 with the newest drivers (and its a lot cheaper) but if you are a Nvidia fanboy get the 680 with a better cooler, since the refererence cooler in the card you selected is absolute shit to be honest. Gigabyte Windforce and ASUS DCUII are perhaps the best in the market at the moment.

Hmm eye candy I can agree with, less dust not really because you have two fans attached to a radiator which is bolted right against an intake or exhaust. Way more dust there.

For eye candy he could grab an H50:

Way cheaper than H100 and will easily get him his overclock.

Thanks for the insight guys. The reason I am looking at the H100 is because it fit in the top of the case and cleans it up nicely.
The monitor and Psu I already own, just wanted to show what I was going to be using.
Also I don't mind spending a little bit extra if it means I'm getting a quality reliable product since I would like this computer to last. I don't upgrade to the newest hardware the second it comes out.
