I went with spiky hair that didn't do anything to make it stand out from other spiky hair styles. Hair is yellow, without any other colours to make it more unique (see: Spitfire). Don't get me started on the cutie mark.

Hell, most of the best OC's out there are actually pretty average in appearance. When you try too much to be too unique, the OC gets cluttered down with too many details.
Part of a good OC is the character being believable. And one of the big parts of being a believable character is being one who you can miss in a crowd.
Unless, of course, you're Chaos Gun.
That sexy motherfucker is allowed to be as out-there as he desires.
