    help deciding what to upgrade

I know fairly little about computers, but I'm pretty competent in general so I'm hoping to figure it out as I go along. Right now I'm running with a shitty HP laptop that overheats like it's its job, so the next time I go home I'm gonna grab my old (early 2010ish) desktop and I'm itching to upgrade what I can. The only problem is I have no idea what some good improvements would be without just building a new one altogether.

My friend basically told me everything to get and put it together for me. This is what I'm working with:

    Case : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129042
    Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131327
    Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130440
    Power Supply : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371006
    Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037
    Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145182
    Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136098
    DVD Writer: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151175

I'm pretty set on peripherals: just got a new 27" Monitor (1600x900) on Black Friday, have a solid Das Keyboard, and I haven't felt the need for a better mouse than my Logitech M510.

Any inputs, suggestions, anything at all for that matter?

I don't even necessarily know that I NEED anything upgraded, but I just want to do so while I'm still stateside - hopefully to make it last a few years with any games that could be coming out and be able to play on high graphics while multitasking on dual monitors and not feeling bogged down. D3/SC2, Skyrim, EQ2 and PS2 with a lot going on without feeling it would be nice.

Budget-wise, I'm looking for the most efficiency in $ spent compared to what I could build starting from scratch with the same amount, and probably around $700-800, but if I can get something good but not necessarily fantastic for around $300 that'd be nice too.

    Thanks!

That build. Is freaking. OLD. Do not buy that under any circumstance.

    What's your budget?

You're going to need to build a new one all together. Sorry mate. Your PSU will not support a newer video card of decent upgrade, and I believe your CPU would also bottleneck said card. Do you live near a Microcenter? They have extremely good deals on CPUs and often have good discounts when you get a CPU and mobo together.

I'm pretty sure that if his psu supported a 9800 it will support a modern gpu, afaik that thing was extremely inefficient.

    My bad.
9800gt didnt use far as much power consumption as a 9800gtx(150ish iirc) or even as much as a newer model iirc somewhere at the 100w at peak i believe. His psu might support it but I wouldnt put new equipment on a psu that old lol.

that's generally very good advice. But if need be it could last a while, with upgrading being an option within a few months of buying this build.
