"...after the age of 25...", well then! I got another few years of harmless sitting to go!

No but, this isn't really news. Sure, of course it requires studies to be done in order to verify it, but a pinch of logic is enough to tell you that sitting on your arse all day is bad for you when done excessively.

..perhaps I should stop complaining about the stairs in my home. I have about 13 steps down & 13 steps up whenever I'm going to the kitchen or living room .. which I do. Frequently. Can't get enough of that kitchen.

Everything is killing me all the time, shit sucks. :S

Next article will be: "Not wearing socks for one day knocks 10 HOURS off your life!!!"

I thought every hour I spent sitting knocked 1 hour of my life. With that being said, if you never get up it"s possible to live forever( we are earning 38 minutes every hour, lol). Gotta love sensationalism

When they can find a causal link between sitting and your life being shortened rather than a survey with "complex actuarial tables" I might be worried. It's kinda like if they gathered a large sample of the most average people they could find and fed each one poison until they died, then calculated the average amount of time that the each of those people would have continued living divided that into the poison dosage and went "Each nanogram of this poison takes 20 minutes off of your life!"

"The tight enviroment around the foot along with foot sweat can create dangerous and tight-packed bacteria that can infect your foot, this infection can lead to severe damages in your foot muscles and can only be removed by amputation. Studies show taking off your socks and boots every 1 hour for 15 minutes will prevent the bacteria from being created."

Wow, it almost sounds plausible when reading it again.

From homo erectus to homo sedens back to homo erectus. The studies do have a valid point that society has shifted our habits so we are sitting more often than standing. It's more geared towards people that work in offices and sit for long periods of time.

If sitting down is going to kill me.. Then it's a pretty comfortable way to go. Or, should I already be dead?

Well, between all the sitting and bacon and butter, I should've been dead a few hundred years ago.

    Life is killing you.
Meanwhile, back on Azeroth, the overwhelming majority of the orcs languished in internment camps. One Orc had a dream. A dream to reunite the disparate souls trapped under the lock and key of the Alliance. So he raided the internment camps, freeing those orcs that he could, and reached out to a downtrodden tribe of trolls to aid him in rebuilding a Horde where orcs could live free of the humans who defeated them so long ago. That orc's name was... Rend.

So if you lose 22 minutes of your life from sitting, a person who works a 40 hour per week desk job, which is millions and millions of people, lose 880 minutes of life per week or 14 .7 hours. That is 762 hours per year or around 32 days. So you lose a month of your life every year you have a desk job.

I say bullshit. Humans do not have a set expiration date from which you can produce these fantasy numbers. You spend 1/3rd of your life killing yourself by sleeping also.

Humans do not come with an expiration date. Humans will die at some point, but suggesting that some have "died prematurely" is just foolish since there is no actual way to quantify exactly how long an individual would have lived given ideal circumstances. If we understood enough about genetics to be able to predict with reasonable accuracy how long any individual would live under optimal conditions, and then took into account their lifestyle, we could make definite statements about how much any activity affects lifespan.

Sure, there is the whole idea of average life expectancy, but to use that as a baseline for the calculations is just silly. By the definition of average, just about half of all people will "die prematurely", whereas nearly half of all people will live unexpectedly (with a small group dying on schedule).

As one of the sources indicates "the impact on life expectancy has not been quantified." Meaning that these are estimates, in other words, guesses, which will be bandied around as facts for use as scare tactics.

Did you know that for every second you breathe, you lose one second of your life?

What's wrong with sitting? The effects of spending too much time in a chair are manifold. Electrical activity in leg muscles shuts down; your body effectively stops burning calories; enzymes that break down fat drop by 90 percent; HDL cholesterol production drops by 20 percent; and the risk of diabetes increases 24 percent.

You might call it rubbish but it is interesting.
