    1440p vs 120hz - new monitor

UPDATE: Looks like I will be getting the ASUS PB278Q Though I am interested in the Dell... I cannot find it in a store for less than ~$800 within driving distance of the Gold Coast... And I like my stuff yesterday If you know what I mean; Thanks for the help

So its a time for a new monitor (boxing day sales and all that) ... the old 1080p/60hz screen has lost its flare. BUT I cannot decide between a 1440p screen (Probally the ASUS PB278Q 2560x1440) http://www.computeralliance.com.au/2...th-displayport $700

And a more standard 120hz 1080p monitor such as the 27" Samsung S27A950D

    http://www.computeralliance.com.au/2...th-displayport $450

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with both and let me know what their thoughts were. I have the horsepower to drive the monitor so that isn't an issue and I don't have much experience with 120hz so I don't feel like I am missing out with 60fps. I am more concerned with colour quality and contrast.

    This is a gaming/photoshop upgrade

The games I primarily play are LoL, BF3 and SKYYYYRIM

My work entails about 15hours a week of heavy video editing/photoshop

(money really isn't an issue from the range of $400-$750)

Also if anyone has any recommendations for these screens that would be greatly appreciated.

If you got the horsepower and money, I don't see why anyone would take the 1080p monitor over 1440p.

fair point - however, will the added "gaming" benifit of 120hz make it worth while over the 1440p

I would recommend the 1440p screen, you said that you're primarily concerned in color/video editing. So the 1440p beats the 120hz out of the water in colors/viewing angles. That Asus monitor is excellent btw.

Seeing as you will also use it for photoshop and what not, i would def get a 1440p screen IPS/PLS screen.

I just got my dell ultrasharp 2713HM this week, and its amazing (I would recommend it over the asus)

And i think 120 Hz only really helps with fast fps games. And i geuss with LoL you could benefit with the extra resolution. You should also read Marests post over resolution and 120 Hz.
