I've missed out on quite a few "greats", so here's my list:

    1.) Final Fantasy 7
    2.) Shining Force
    3.) Uncharted Waters (especially 2)
4.) Romance of the Three Kingdoms (the whole darn series!)
    5.) Dragon Age (1 AND 2!)
6.) Civilization (I never played the first, but I played the 2nd/3rd/4th/5th to DEATH, even moreso with mods)
7.) Final Fantasy Tactics (original PSX, never played the others)
    8.) Star Ocean: Second Story
9.) Elder Scrolls (Morrowind especially, but Oblivion and Skyrim were top-notch too)
10.) PLANTS VS ZOMBIES! =) Best ending EVER.

It can certainly be your favorite, and many other people seem to be listing it as their number 1...

But I've pumped over 400 days into WoW, and about 8 play through's (~250-300hrs) into The Witcher 2, but I still recognise it (Witcher 2) as a superior game; Graphically, Story, Characters, Mechanically, Gameplay (Basically every single aspect). l see WoW as more of a mediocre game that just has all the right addictive aspects that keeps players playing, but IMO it's certainly not a game that has THE BEST of every category a game would be rated on.

    1. Tetris
    2. Zelda

Yes, but this is a thread about the top 10 games, not top 10 ways to spend your time....

How stupid must a comment be to get a user infracted for a general lack of common sense?

EDIT: In reply to HK-51's next reply, you're making no sense at all...

I always have such a tough time picking my favorite games, so I normally resort to naming my favorite franchises, but I'll give it a shot:

    1. StarCraft II (PC)
    2. Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne (PC)
    3. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 64)
    4. Pokemon Gold (Game Boy Color)
    5. Halo 2 (Xbox)
    6. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II (PC)
    7. The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (PC)
    8. World of Warcraft (PC)
    9. Civilization III (PC)
    10. Portal 2 (PC)

I'm likely forgetting something, but that's a tentative list.

These are my top 10 favorites, I don't think they are the best ever. (Besides a few)

The Sims: I only say this one due to how much time I've put into the series, bought every single expansion since the original Sims, I do feel the series has drastically gone down in quality thanks to EA, but I can't really ignore how much I've put into playing this series.

    Paper Mario

    Chrono Trigger

    DKC

    Dragon Age: Origins

    Harvest Moon 64

    Rune Factory 3

    Kirby Super Star

    Pokemon (minus gen 4)

    LoZ (MM > OOT > WW > ALTTP > SS > TP)

WoW Vanilla - WoTLK barely made it, as did Dragon Quest 9, and SSB Melee.

I do feel that their opinions are akin to selecting their favorite food when they've only ever eaten at a global chain restaurant.

PC games in recent times have seriously degraded in quality and depth though. I feel bad for people who missed out on the mid-to-late 90s (and perhaps arguably the early 2000s) of PC gaming. Those were some great times.
I've played both PC and console, but went over to console full time with the exception of WoW and LoL, simply because I don't enjoy the kind of games released for the PC anymore. The Elder Scrolls games, every first person shooter, any other MMO and Moba but WoW and LoL, in general all the games I've tried on Steam can't compare to the fun I'm having playing on the console, believe me, I've tried PC gaming, but it just doesn't cut it for me. The games that are released for PC that catch my attention are usually just bad ports of the console version anyways, like Rayman Origins and the likes. The only reason I'm still PC gaming is because of the two games I still play's social aspects, playing LoL with friends is great, and WoW too, but as stand alone games without the social aspect they're pretty mediocre.
