Why do we still have PvP servers ?

To preface, I have characters on both PvE and PvP servers, and generally never found much difference between them. While I was leveling on a PvP server I occasionally had the opportunity to chase down horde players, and occasionally got ganked. But the choice was never mine to make about whether I wanted to PvP or not, it was whether I wanted to play with the set of friends on *this* server, which happened to be a PvP server, or a set of friends that played on *that* server which happened to be a PvE server.

With the introduction of xrealm raids and zones though, I tend to focus more on the character I want to play, and have oddly been the the situation where I'm playing a PvE realm character, doing the 'PvP' dailies, and noone's flagged.

Why not just ditch the PvP server concept entirely, and merge PvP-flagged players into PvP zones, and non-flagged players into PvE zones ?

There's certainly no difference in 'community' in PvP and PvE servers that I've been able to distinguish. (I'd suggest the same for RP servers, but there seems to be ONLY community/guild enforced differences in that flag)

Again, I have little personal problem with my level 15s getting ganked on PvP servers (I don't actually quest anymore anyways), I just found my fondest memory of 'world PvP' was chasing down a level 20~ while I was also level 20~ish.

I suppose PvP zones could be level-bracketed akin to BGs as well. It would make for interesting twink developments if a Horde guild decided to invade and hold Westfall while xp-capped. Level bracketing may just over complicate things though.

I think the whole point of pvp realms was that you were flagged ALL the time. If you were to do away with this it would just turn the whole thing into one big pve realm, with people unflagging themselves when they got bored of pvp. It's maybe a small difference but I think there's not much point fucking around with cross server bullshit to overcomplicate things.

At least that's what I think: they are a place with no respite from cross faction fighting.

I could not play on a pve realm. I dont even gank people i'll see a horde and watch them walk by.

But I like having the choice to be able to kill them if im so inclined on a pve server I can't do that.

Also fighting over mining / herb nodes, trying to wipe Horde Sha tags and fighting over quest mobs is not something I would want to play without.

Sometimes doing dailies i'll try to bait people aswell, like i'll hit them to say 50% and run away. If they do nothing I'll leave them, if they try to kill me while im running away they die. Occasionally this will turn into mass world pvp which is always fun too.

The point with pvp servers are to chase down low level to gank or get ganked yourself by a high level. Its not funny at all. If you by a rare chance find a equal leveled character with equal skills to fight that doesnt escape world pvp, then fine. You can just go outside and duel, its much easier.

Either if you fight an equal level he dies in 3 seconds cause of pve gear or he just throws a CD and escape when you use your 2 min trinket. Fighting as a team is much easier for world pvp tho because the people cant escape you and they will call for guildies after a time, such as when you fight at a spawnpoint for a raid boss but you could always just queue for a bg as a premade and force the other to fight you instead for capping something i mean you dont have to worry about 2 min ress time, mobs or ress up with 50% life all the time.

If Blizzard put new stuffs such as punishing flying mounts and escape while reducing ress time and ressing up at 100% life IF you get killed in pvp, THEN pvp servers would be nice.

Id rather play a pvp server than a pve server because i love random equal level world pvp but that never happens anyways. Everyone just dont give a shit about me and whenever i attack them they just let me kill them because they are wearing pve gear. Every pvp server seems to have the majority being pve guilds.

I would be happy seeing Blizzard putting in deathmatch bgs that is based on different vanilla zones such as Ashenvale road ganking. Because with the pve stuffs on a pvp server, world pvp sucks. Just go outside and duel or turtle the AV instead of wasting your time.

yeah, thought i kinda asked that. =)

for me, the big thing about pvp servers isnt that i'm flagged all the time, its that EVERYONE is flagged.

For the opponent, you either know them or you don't... if you don't know them, does it really matter if they spend some of their time unattackable ? It'd be roughly the same as if they split their time between PvP & PvE servers anyways. If you do know them, well... you're either on good terms with them, and can always ask for a duel or start some skirmishes... or you're (more likely) NOT on good terms, and just looking to grief them... in which case noone benefits from increased antagonism between players that should just be /ignore-ing each other, especially Blizzard.

and for yourself... its like permadeath... if you WANT to be pvp-flagged all the time, there's certainly nothing preventing you from doing so, the big difference though, is that you would actually be constantly running into other PvP flagged players, whereas at present (on PvE servers) flagging yourself only serves as an invitation to PvP, not an actual toggle...

Also, I think this would make pvp-flagged a little more bloody, as whenever I'm questing on a PvP server, people tend to be considerate 90-99% of the time, and are just there trying to get their quests done as well... and if you get attacked, its usually by accident. When PvP is ALWAYS voluntary that isn't the case, which is why I'm more likely to attack flagged players on a PvE realm then I am to bother with world PvP on a PvP realm.

You came to a forum filled with people (myself included) recounting getting ganked relentlessly in some zones by level 90s, and even needing a max level escort just to get into the Dark Portal, to talk about how "ganking is minimal and mostly voluntary?" I mean, maybe you've been on the right servers and this was before CRZ but I specifically picked a PVE server to level my other faction alts because getting ganked literally added hours to my leveling process.
Soothing Mist:"Healing them for a minor amount every 0.5 sec, until you take any other action."
Jade Serpent Statue: "The statue will also begin casting Soothing Mist on your target. healing for 50% as much as yours. "
    [What's half of minor?]
"Statue casts Soothing Mist at a nearby ally for toddler healing."

Whoa, it added entire, bolded hours to your multiple days wow leveling process? That's about as first-world problem as it gets. QQ more

i keep hearing about these mass slaughters at the dark portal, but i've yet to see one. i've been ganked once or twice by level 90s, but certainly no more then i was before CRZ was implemented.

    i think people are exaggerating.
does it really matter if it takes an hour or two longer for you to level? i certainly don't enjoy the speed at which we are pushed through the 1-80 content.

Everytime i enter Dark Portal TP the ground is white as snow because of all the skeletons. I get instantly one shot by them waiting for me to spawn there and when im going up i have to fly away because im going up at 50% life, its nice that Blizzard loves world pvp so much..
