    New Build - Opinions?

    CPU - i5 3570k
    MoBo - AsRock Z77 Extreme 4
    GPU - MSI 660ti GTX 2gb
    PSU - Corsair 650HX
    RAM - 16gb (2x8gb) Crucial Ballistix Sport 1600
    SSD - Samsung 830 128gb
HDD - 1tb Seagate Barracuda (salvaged from my old machine)
Case - Fractal Design Arc Midi

Did this build for ~900.00 USD

Primarily playing WoW and other MMOs; occasionally playing other games.

What could I have done differently? Thoughts?!?

perhaps aftermarket cpu cooler? or not into oc'ing? , else a very solid build already.

Why would you chose ATi 7950 over 660 ti?

I see no reason for it, beside he's buying an SSD as well.

Oh the MSI cards have been really solid, got myself 2 - 560 ti's working wonders.

well for a small price you can unlock quite some more performance. (cpu oc'ing scales really well with wow due to engine build)
for +- $20 you can get a evo 212 which can cool stuff easy in the 4,0-4,2 Mhz range.

@gpu's , for wow the nvidia card is better. in general the 660Ti and 7950 go pretty much head to head in benchmarks so for the price the 660Ti is a likely better choice.

I've purchased most of the components (save the GPU) through my local MicroCenter (deals on the CPU and MoBo can't be beat right now). They don't offer SeaSonic PSU's or G.Skill RAM. Is an aftermarket heatsink worth the price if I'm not OCing in the near future? Additionally, for MMO play why go with a 7950 over a nVidia product?

Additionally, I'm looking to build a machine for a friend in the next month or so centered around an i3 processor, utilizing a salvaged Radeon 5670 GPU. I'd ideally like this build to come in around $400-500 USD. Thoughts?

Due to really bad experience with ATI cards and drivers, i prefer sticking to nvidia.
Also, i would add some minor cash and drop that GTX 660ti for gainward gtx570 "fantom 3" which is far superior to 660ti.

That should be around 70$ difference and gain is far to big not to buy it if you have chance.
Also, if you pick GTX570 phantom, you need more power, so PSU needs to be AT LEAST 750W, count for sure +750W if you want to pull maximum out of it.

i5 is also decent, it can work without issue with stock cooling if you dont force it to much. My i7 is on stock cooler and he survived summer (38c) without a issue, hes now well cooled with T-Virus water cooling setup.

Also, for memory, i can highly recommend you one of Kingston 4x4gb 1600MHZ HyperX modules (there are 3 classes with 3 subclasses, so choice is up to you and your pocket).
The 4x4gb module feels more comfortable, i personally like my slots full, not to get dusty but you can go 2x8gb, its up to you.

Its nice combo if you ask me, but i would try to save up a bit more cash for that 570 Phantom and with that a bit powerful PSU, i have 2of them in SLI and 650w power just for them.

If you are not going to OC there is zero reason to buy a k series CPU, microcenter also offers 40 off a motherboard with a i3-3225. You have two options:

    1. Get the kseries and Overclock it with z77 motherboard (these parts are made to be overclocked) and get a aftermarket cooler.
    2. Buy the 3225 with a h-61 motherboard and save 100.00+ and put that elsewhere in your build. An i3 will game pretty much identical to an i5 at stock clocks.

I will also add you can save money on your PSU, todays video cards draw hardly any power at all and 650w is massive overkill for a single video card.

"In the near future" doesn't mean he'll never overclock.

I do think you should consider a 212+ or evo though and install it with the build so you don't have to do it later.
    CPU - i9 9900k | CPU Cooler - Corsair H115i RGB Platinum | Motherboard - MSI Z390 Godlike | GPU - EVGA FTW3 RTX 2080 Ti
    RAM - G.SKILL TridentZ 32GB DDR4 3600Mhz | SSD - 2x Samsung 970 EVO 2TB NVMe | PSU - EVGA Supernova 750w P2 |Case - Corsair Air 540

They're so cheap you might as well... $25 for a + and $30 for an Evo.

because the 7950 is more powerful and the 660 Ti is usually overpriced atm. 660 Ti also has low bus memory but I doubt that will ever be a problem for anyone who doesn't use a resolution higher than 1920x1200

that is the only thing I would have done differently. the 660 Ti is a good card no doubt, but there are better options for the price. I probably would have gotten the 7950 as well sayin how they are often similarly priced.

you only really need 8GB of memory since most people will never even reach that amount but RAM is cheap so if you have the money who the hell cares.
