There have been, but the industry needs to change it's view, starting with wanting the best graphics for every single game.

Well, for me, graphics do help immersion and overall aesthetics, but good graphics does not equal a good game.

Focus on the gameplay first, sort out graphics later.

Many of those games do require you to have friends playing with you. Which is why I like Sonic Generations and similar things.
