While you can have your own opinion, isn't that the same with everything we do? Always moving to the next thing as we forget what is no longer able to help or work for us? We do this with objects, toys as we are children, bands and technology as we are teenagers, we grow old with relationships as we become adults until we are done fornicating or even detest the person since they no longer work for you. Even friendships do the same as both people no longer get anything from the companionship from each other. At least in video games you see it coming.

In life, you are always moving towards a long term goal. When you reach that long term goal, life doesn't patch itself and make your long term goal obsolete instantly. Life allows you to enjoy your long term goal once it was completed. You can finally stop laboring, and sip a beer on a beach.
(and yes, we can nit-pick that life can get royally fucked over, ruining your long term goal, but that's hardly relevant.)

You set your goals too high.

Did you wanted to be the best pally of the server every month? For me, being done with a patch meant at least doing every dungeon once, and learning the lore.
You always keep your old stuff, and now, even better than before, your armor can be used for transmog, and so many other things.

You sound like those old players that bitch about content getting easier as new content is released.

Eh, to put it simply. I realized MMO's were no longer my thing. Too much involvement, and felt like a slap in the face when it was all for nothing.
