I don't get it... If being a "princess" aka alicorn is merely a title bestowed for leadership...how do you explain Luna and Celestia? They have, quite literally, godlike powers as well as immortality.

The way I see it, if you are very powerful and posses a clean and pure soul etc (If you're a good pony to the bone), you can ascend. But Luna, Celestia and Cadence are different. They have powers beyond normal magic. Mind you, Alicorns are rare as hell, or at least so I would understand. You just don't get to be an alicorn if you save a burning city, or summon a rain of fire with magic, or even slay a dragon.

You have to be special. Luna and Celestia is gods, controlling the Night and Day, whilst Cadence is the (own interpretation) Goddess of Love.
Maybe, to become an Alicorn, Twilight has to take on an element and become the master of it. The Master of Magic? The MLP version of Malygos!

I hoped that it was just a rumor, because judging by what I know by know it makes no sense what so ever. I guess I'll just wait how it turns out to be. Not much else I can do.

They have basically been pointing in that direction with the whole "One pony finds her destiny" in the commercials and what not. I think people don't want it to be true even though it has been heading that way since the beginning.

They say she's going to continue with her regular adventures, but if she's basically an aspect level pony now, that seems a bit underwhelming.
