I've recently upgrade my pc. I have an 8 pin connector on my MB. My PSU, also has an 8 pin, but cause I have a full tower, it won't reach, no matter what. I've connected the 4 pin connector to the 8, and my PC booted. However, when running games that require use of the GFX card (games, windows experience index), my PC auto reboots itself.

Another issue. My old HDD doesn't show up, anywhere after installing my new ssd. Bios, Computer Management, nothing. Should it be plugged into a sata 6.0 gb, or a sata 3.0 gb? or is that even the issue?

1: should I buy an extention and get full use of all 8 pins?
2: Could the HDD be too old and need to be upgrade? Also, should HDD be in 3.0/s Sata connection?
3: do I need to replace my Power supply cause it's too weak for my build?

What is the exact model of your PSU? Usually there is a 4+4pin for the motherboard. A 4pin only sounds like a really old PSU.
The 8pin that won't reach won't happen to be a 6+2pin?

The cable i use is an 8 pin, with a 4 pin sticking out the back, making that the only reason it can reach. I don't know the model. All i know is that its 2+ years old, i bought it from best buy, and that i've never really had an issue with.

And to the last question... it's an 8pin, not a 6+2.

Ok, well then all you need is an extension for the 8pin. It is most likely the lack of proper power to your CPU that forces the restarts.

As for the HDD it doesn't matter if you put it in SATA-2 or SATA-3. It won't even fully utilize the speed of SATA-2. As long as it is a SATA HDD it can't really be too old for your BIOS to find it. Just try a few different SATA ports and check the power cables as well.

You don't need to replace the PSU.

There's really no reason the old HDD shouldn't show up. Make sure all SATA ports are actually enabled in BIOS. SATA III (6.0gb/s) is backwards compatible with SATA II and I. There shouldn't be any issue with that. Just double check that everything is snug.

I guess the splitter would work but why not just get a proper extension?

If you can pick up at Microcenter, then Newegg may be close to you as well, about 25 miles north. I'm assuming you wanted Microcenter because you could go pick it up tomorrow. Of course, other stores may have it too, local shops, or Frys. If you can wait, just order it from newegg for like $5.

I couldn't find the extensions on the website. Much appreciated considering I have downs some times.

I'll be making a trip to grab the cable (2 just is case) , some wire ties, and my new headset tomorrow.

Also, thanks for the suggestion on rearranging the sata cables, I got my HDD to work, and also decreased the load time on my pc in the process by moving my ssd to the 6.0/s sata ports.

I bought the cable. I installed it, and booted my PC. After booting my PC, I tried running Windows EXP index again, and my pc rebooted again. Not enough power? Bad video card?

Not sure what to do now, but I definitely can't raid tonight.
