    replacing case, power supply?

    Hello forum i'm turning to you again with a question about computer building. (i'm a realy fresh subject to pc-building so please vear with me, i just built my 1st pc 1 year ago, and didn't do much since then)

    The initial build i was using was;
    cpu: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition procesor, Six Core, 3.3 (3.7) GHz, Socket AM3, 7MB Cache, 125W,
    motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 , AM3+
    gpu: AMD Radeon HD 6870 Dirt3 Edition, 1 GB GDDR5, PCI-E
    ram: Kingston HyperX DDR3 2x 4 GB 1600 MHz
    ssd: 2,5" SSD Corsair F3 120GB SATA III
    energy supply; energon 680watt (dunno the exact model, since im at uni writing this)
    case; LC Power PRO-920BL Veritas
    i was using the regular cpu-cooler shipped with the cpu, but last week i finally got pissed off at the noice everyone was telling me it did so i went and ordered a new cooler;
    Thermalright HR-02 Macho Rev.A

    the building of it went preety smooth, but when i finished it and tried to get the case closed again i got an unpleasent surprise; the case can't be shut anymore, since the cooler is too big

    now on to my questions;
    - is it bad to keep the case open?
    - should i buy a new case for my pc?
    - if yes? which one would you advise me to buy?

    another question arising; is it possible that my energy supply is now the noisiest part of the PC? and should i also go and replace it? asking this cause what i could find about energon by googing it wasn't realy good news.

    I wouldn't go near that psu it's cheap and bound for failure alot of bad reviews out there about it.The case i would replace it with something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129066
    and this for the psu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151095 no it's not bad to leave your case open i used to do it all the time might have abit more dust to cleanup than normal though
    You Can't C Me!!

    I am not expert, but IMO building computer is always a fun hobby. If you have the spare cash and you know the power supply is making noise and you want to replace it then you could upgrade the tower. You your strapped for cash you could stick it out if it's not bothering you that bad. It also depends on what kind of case you want. I got a full-size tower which is big but has so many options to play with.

    For case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811108406 Inwin mana white you can get it in black as well. Inwin have been making solid cases and you wouldn't go wrong with getting one of them.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811345010 Bitfenix shinobi
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146078 NZXT Source 210 elite
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811139018 Corsair Carbide 200R
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811108236 InWin Dragonslayer
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811163220 Silverstone Redline

    Any of those would be fine cases.

    are you sure these cases will be broad enough to be properly closed? i got a 20cm one and the cooler is just too big for it :/

    The Thermalright HR-02 Macho Rev.A needs at least 162mm clearance from the motherboard:

    BitFenix Shinobi has 161mm.
    Corsair Carbide Series 200R has 160mm.
    NZXT Source 210 Elite has 160mm.
    IN WIN Dragon Slayer has less than 158mm.
    IN WIN MANA136 has 152mm.
    Intel i5-3570K @ 4.7GHz | MSI Z77 Mpower | Noctua NH-D14 | Corsair Vengeance LP White 1.35V 8GB 1600MHz
    Gigabyte GTX 670 OC Windforce 3X @ 1372/7604MHz | Corsair Force GT 120GB | Silverstone Fortress FT02 | Corsair VX450

    Damn I didn't think it was that big for some reason I'll have to do a check on that next time.

    There's nothing wrong with leaving your case open, the only thing is you'll have to clean it more often because you'll most likely get way more dust than before. You don't need to, but if you think it'll bother you, then buy a new one. Look up the dimensions of your psu and new case and see if it'll fit.

    The Enforcer has 175mm clearance so you are good to go.
    Intel i5-3570K @ 4.7GHz | MSI Z77 Mpower | Noctua NH-D14 | Corsair Vengeance LP White 1.35V 8GB 1600MHz

    Just out of curiosity, how did you determine the amount of clearance? Just a straight inches-to-millimeter conversion?

    Also, this is the case I for for Christmas, and I'm pretty pleased with it (same price on Newegg as the Enforcer, but it's a bit narrower, so IDK if it'd have the clearance):

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147107

    It's got 5 fans to the Enforcer's 3, 2 more USB 2.0 ports (6 ports total, vs. 4), a top SATA drive bay (not that useful, but kind of neat), and a few other nice things, plus the cable management in it is fantastic (I was able to run most of it through the back of the case, so it stays pretty clean in there).

    Just some Google magic, there are sites where you can find this info such as reviews of the case/cooler in question and also some stores or manufacturers sites state it as well.

    In the case of that Rosewill case you can see in this review that they can't fit the cooler they are using. If you look up that cooler you will see that it is 161mm high.

    In a more simple case a store like Inet.se will list the maximum height of a CPU cooler in a case.
    Max höjd CPU-kylare 177 mm

    Here's a case that has the room for a tall heat sink (but it has a large footprint): HAF XB
