The Queen to abdicate?

It seems that Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands will give a speech in around 35minutes in which she is expected to announce her abdication in favour of her son Prince Wilhem-Alexander.

The last 3 Dutch monarchs have all abdicated the throne, so I guess its not entirely a big deal by now.

i myself being dutch never heard of the word: abdicate (neither dutch or english version)

turns out it meant: giving up the throne in favor of the next in line, while still being alive.

Even though it has happened before, I would still imagine it as a big deal. It's an entire country changing monarch.
