Now what is it you want....

    Upgrade or New Computer: Upgrade

Upgrade on what (you hope): Mobo, CPU, RAM, Case, possibly an SSD

Willing to Self Build or a Pre-Built: Self Build

How much you want to spend: Around $1000

How much you can spend: $1500

What all you plan to use it for: High end gaming performance mainly

What Operating system you want to use & Bit: Windows 7 64 Bit

What Resolution you hope to be in: 1920x1080

What Settings do you Want & how much FPS: Top end/max settings; 30-60 min FPS

What Country are you from: United States

What can you re-use: GPUs, HDDs, PSUs, Monitors

Network will be wired or wireless: Wireless

Any Additional Info Here: Built this comp 4-5 years ago and things are starting to show their age, along with the case starting to taper off. The large fan on the side has proven far more trouble than worth, and in fact no longer works anymore. GPUs are brand new, as is the ram, but would like to get out of the aging DDR2. Have two HDDs that would prefer to carry over, though I am admittedly not too well informed about some things and I am unsure if that would not jive well with replacing so many parts. Budget allowing, after getting new pieces would be interested in an SSD, but the other hardware comes first.

Have been reading the 'setup of the month' that crops up regularly, and finally have decided it's time to give it a shot. I still feel like it's a miracle I even got this thing running to begin with, so I'm not sure about things like compatibility... Any help in this area would be most welcome and appreciated.

You are going to want to add a new GPU to that list if you want to run new and coming games at max settings.

This should do you just fine and give you a little left over just in case you want to upgrade your GPU as well.

Here's a build that includes a fairly nice video card.

This is an idea for you, the case is my own personal preference its up to you really what you go there.
The cpu cooler seeing you have so much budget left you can either go h100i or NH-D14 if you really want to push the cpu overclock. The ram you can change up as well if you like the heat spreaders on them (they don't do anything and remember it has to be low profile with most air cpu coolers. Because you said your going for high end gaming I figured may as well go the 256gb SSD.

I would probably let a few more ideas pop up and start to mix and match this was just a quick suggestion to give you a rough idea.

These are very helpful! Will start looking into these. Will post back to anything new/any questions crop up

Okay. (Not sure if I should have edited last post or do this, if I'm in the wrong pleaaase let me know and I will fix it if I can) Since the suggestion to replace GPU is there, I am thinking of just taking one HDD out of the comp and leaving it as is and possibly selling it/giving it away. In this case; would it be a good idea to get a new PSU for the new build, or remove old one and get a new PSU for that comp?

Your best option would probably be to advertise with basic psu for 'x' amount or the corsair 750tx for 'x+100', if they want to pay the extra for the tx then sell it to them and get a new psu for the new rig, if they just want a basic psu pick up something cheapish and slap it in (neo eco 520w is a fairly solid psu for $40 for example).

Also the beautiful thing about mmo champ forums is if you post and then post again straight after it will merge the two posts together (However just out of force of habit I still turn around and select to edit my posts).

That is a super nice feature.
Lined up a buyer for the old comp, so was able to spend just a little bit more than originally expected. Browsed around after looking at the suggestions given, have come up with...

Any opinions on this build, warnings of compatibility/lack of power/product experience and the like?

The extra 8GB RAM won't give you any performance increase, spend that money (from different PSU as well) on the GPU instead (GTX670, 7870XT, 7950).

    SeaSonic G 550W $90
PC Power & Cooling Silencer MK III 600 $90
    SeaSonic M12II 620 $80

I fully agree with this post, a 660Ti will get less than 30FPS in Crysis 3 if you want to run at max settings.

Informational question; what are the main benefits to having a card with 4gigs opposed to 2gigs?

On a single screen setup, none.

I do have a second screen, although I generally only run a game on the main monitor while I run other programs on the secondary. Would the benefit of a 4gig card be useful there, or a waste?

No benefit, just get a 2GB card.

Alrighty then. Thank you all for the help!
