Well think of it like this, and I know I'm reaching a bit, but if all the starved, (to the point of eating their kids) desperate people who are also brainwashed were convinced that South Korea was to blame for everything instead of the US (If Kim Jong Un picks an easier target) a lot of people are going to attack the border, possibly get by, and well a lot of people are going to die.

And keep in mind, the leaders don't really so much have a job as they do a position of rulers.

In fairness neither can I here. (yes I am jelly bro)

On the freedom tip, lol, I have so much freedom, I can say what I think and up here, it's called 'a difference of opinion' and instead of pre(socially)programmed fools jumping up and down calling for my ban/arrest/burning dolls, they shrug their shoulders and say 'it's your trip man'.

It's called tolerance, you don't have to like it, it isn't likence, it's tolerance from the word tolerate.
Understand? You only need to 'tolerate' others.
If you could personally learn to do that, america might get .1% better right now.
If you don't understand that, I suggest you talk to minorities, up here we don't always get along, I can't claim we are a racist free country or anything, but I'd take the pepsi challenge against america ANY DAY OF THE WEEK on that, pretty sure we come out ahead by a landslide as a place where you can just sort of be and people will tolerate.

Anyways, I digress, I could bang my head against the wall here for years and some of you just wouldn't get it at all.
Just try to play nicer with other countries okay? Try hard not to nation bash on mmochamp, next time you do, you will probably remember this and think "damn it Bigbamboozal, you silly bitch, you got me!", and I hope I do, b/c I am tired of seeing the juvi act, especially when you guys get so butthurt if it's your own nation bashed.
It's a life lesson fellas, now nut up or shut up.

It seems that a lot of people would die no matter what happens. How much hope can there be for a bloodless transition to a more sane government? Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I have a hard time seeing it.

on the bright side, i suspect that if china were to do a smackdown it would be relatively painless, considering. they undoubtedly have far better intel and operational assets in NK than we do. i imagine they would be capable of a pretty precise surgical strike and set up a new govt far more easily than we could

No revolution. They're physically to weak from drought and starvation, and they're brainwashed. It's like being in a relationship with a really abusive husband. Who also starves you and chains you in the basement.

They're definitely won't be a painless transition, but the best analogy I can think of if a country intervenes for what the people would do is... well if you've ever seen the death of Scar at the end of Lion King. Scar is the North Korean government and the hyenas are the people.

I'm not pretending the US is the perfect nation. Nor am I revolving my life around works of fiction, sad that you evidently couldn't get the meaning of my reply. You're making our nation out to be worse than North Korea or some other god-forsaken (that's a common phrase, don't even try calling me a religious idiot) third-world, poverty-striken, cannibalistic, fascist country. Your silly tangent is what started this mess. Also, if you read what I posted, it was targeting your replies to others when they turn the tables on your nation.

Now, if you had a single bit of sense in your head you'd know that America is a lot more liberal with its citizens than most would want to admit. You really think if our nation was a religious police state that groups such as the WBC and KKK would even exist? That we would let people openly express their acceptance or intolerance of socialism, communism, homosexuality, social welfare, immigration, etc.?

Quit making the US to be the bad guy in this world unless you want to freely admit your own nation's issues. Unless you're from NK (not that a citizen would even be allowed on the internet to attempt to defend the hell-hole) or the United States you really shouldn't have even started your nation-bashing in this thread in the first place.

Its more complicated than that. China a) wants to maintain a cushy relationship with the West and b) does not want millions of Korean refugees streaming into Manchuria.

So most of the time that has meant quietly helping north korea stay stable (read: the regime in power). But North Korea has gotten a lot more brash and its making their position untenable.

The issue is, it doesn't matter from China's perspective if the regime gets better or worse because both mean a flood of refugees.

This thread was totally worth following! I wish I could act like a political martyr over video game forums. I bet I would totally prove a point then...right guys? Uneducated people make those who are anti-establishment seem absolutely batshit crazy.

That's the thing i don't understand. China wants stability more than anything, which means maintaining the status quo for as long as possible. However, with NK being one of the most unstable little countries you could imagine, how long do they think they can keep this up? What is their endgame? they must know this can't last forever.
