Ret - really low ap for the ilvl

Lo guys, was just wandering, pretty much all rets i see on armory have tons of more ap than me, (i know im not using sha weapon and im using lei trinket), should i switch anything on my gear or gemming? Flat haste seems the way to go, but the ap diference is just insane.
