FPS downgrade going to 7850 2gb from 550 ti

My GF just moved up to 25 man raiding and it started to add noticeable FPS slowdowns with the GT 240 she was using. I bought a Power color 7850 2GB and threw my old 550 TI in her computer. Her FPS improvement is noticeable and runs fine at 1680x1050.

I've always played at 1920x1080 on a Phenom II 965 BE using that 550 ti with 8GB RAM. I play on decently high settings with some stuff I don't care about turned down like shadows, texture filtering, and SSAO. I do play Windowed Fullscreen since I run two monitors and it's easier to move over to the desktop this way.

TLDR: Kept everything the same, installed a more powerful card and my FPS is down ~20 FPS. I've tried old drivers, new drivers, beta drivers. Removing every old display driver with Driver Fusion and reinstalling again. Tried OC'd 7850 and back to stock again. This card just really isn't doing much in WoW.

I don't play any other games so I don't need a more powerful card, I assumed this card should be more than enough for WoW.

I know many people have had problems with 7850 and WoW, including tomshardware initial benchmarks crashing many times after starting WoW. Any solutions that I haven't tried yet?

Returning it and getting another nvidia card is also an option, in the ~$200 range is that a better solution?

Have you tried running a benchmark or something to see if it only is in WoW you lack performance?

If you are going to change to Nvidia you have the 660 at that price point.

Haven't gone the benchmark route, but that would be the next logical step.. I keyed on the WoW issue since so many others were having troubles with the 7850 and WoW.

Ran the latest basic 3D Mark after comparing same exact settings in WoW. The 550 TI was on average 10 FPS above the 7850 in the loop I ran in WoW.

3D Mark showed commanding wins for the 7850 across the board.

    Ice Storm Graphics Score- 7850: 163,765 // 550 TI: 126,179
    Cloud Gate Graphics Score- 7850: 29,789 // 550 TI: 14,775
    Fire Strike Graphics Score- 7850: 4,277 // 550 TI: 1,739

    That looks to be decent.

Right, which is why the WoW performance of the 7850 (or lack there of) is perplexing.

Is your BIOS up to date? Have you tried a Driver Cleaner solution instead of just using Windows' own uninstaller (which gets all aspects of the old driver that might be interfering with the new one)?

That being said, I prefer the GTX 660 over the 7850. Granted, it might cost a hair more (they hover around $200-$225 baseline) but they can pack a meaner punch.

In my original post I mentioned using Driver Fusion/Sweeper. So yes, it's been tried, over and over again. The 660 is looking like the way to go at the moment.

Solved the problem by ordering a 660 TI, sending this 7850 back.

Thanks to those that tried to help resolve the issue.

For future reference. If you solely play video games from Blizzard (WoW, Diablo, SC2) the GTX660 is the best value for money card available. The 7850 is a great card as well but the GTX660 is quite a bit better.
