I'm torn between .243 and .308
.243 is leagues better when it comes to extreme distance precision shooting, but you'll shoot out your barrel about 3-4 times faster than .308 if your running hot loads (3400fps+) on the other hand a good .308 will last me 10,000 rounds easy but its performance at greater distances (1000yd and up) pales when compared to 243.

Precision shooting competition is what I'm using it for (1000yd regularly). And .338 is garbage.

.338 may be the ammunition of choice for sniping people, but I'm shooting competition where accuracy is paramount not ability to kill, and in that case .243 is far superior in terms of its ballistic coefficient. Originally Posted by RICH1471
