Hmm, I'd feel like it's easier for Blizzard to auto-generate more gold. So I'd say to the GM responding my ticket:

*The way I see it, you have two options here. You can either give me my gold back or ...OR if you don't have permission to do that, you can go and find me someone who has and get him here so the big boys can talk business That's of course if you're not allowed to give out gold, maybe you don't have high enough promotion? I don't know.*

Heh, that gave me a good laugh as well. I would say sure, but I'm not going to pay $15 to give you virtual items. Good try though, jolly good.

I'll be honest, as long as you have your GEAR (as in, the stuff that enabled you to make the gold in the first place), I see no problem.
If you add me on Steam, Skype or whatever program/client I share my info for, please write something to identify you in the "Dude/gal wants to join your club"-message. Just so I know that an actual human is on the other end :P

Blizzard actually will do incredible things for you if you entice them with sweets or something. case in point
If you are particularly bold, you could use a Shiny Ditto. Do keep in mind though, this will infuriate your opponents due to Ditto's beauty. Please do not use Shiny Ditto. You have been warned.

If it's been too long... well then it's been too long, simple as that. It's not "bad" support, they are literally not allowed to give you your gold back. Who knows how long you've been hacked for, may have been over 2 months ago, once again that is TOO long, get over it.

You should be be grateful you even got your account back, now stop downloading free porn from U-torrent and giving out your account information to gold selling sites and/or friends and your account should never get compromised... ever.

It does suck but as you have said, nothing you can do about it.

Maybe try to spin it around. Rebuilding your in game wealth could be a nice side focus for you.

That guy knew how to handle Blizzard. You have to take them by the horn and talk to them in a way they can understand. Special talk for special people

Umm wait.... you haven't logged on any of your toons yet? Armory only updates when you log in and out; gold/item restoration isn't visible if you haven't actually gone and opened your mailbox to receive the stuff.

To me, it sounds like Blizzard should probably review how it backs up its character data to prevent this in future. Create a copy of characters whenever the player's subscription time runs out, and if an account is hacked, revert to one of these copies?
You mean this security breach? Stop tossing the blame around, do you honestly expect anyone to believe you were one of the very few if any who they were actually able to unscramble your password? Also is it Blizzard's fault people are stupid and use the same password for multiple sites/applications? Blizzard already keeps a backup of characters to restore, did you suddenly forget that the OP had his characters restored. If they believed every persons sob story people would just log in sell everything they have and offload the gold to someone they know then place a ticket in to have the character restored.

There wouldn't be any gold in the mail since Blizzard said they will not restore it. On a side note, I just got an email from Blizzard saying they had investigated my account and found out that my account had been compromised some time ago (as I said) and that my account sent gold to another compromised account. Heh, gave me a slight chuckle.

I'd be mad. They should give you a pet or something.

I'm not sure if that was a serious post or not because sarcasm is not conveyed very well across the internet, but it made me really laugh regardless.

Maybe a mechanical empty piggy bank to follow him around... or would that be a bit cruel?

I've been a longtime "lurker" on these forums, but I've never really cared to post a reply to anything except this thread.
I also took a break from WoW for a few months after burning myself thanks to my neurotic need to do ALL of the dailies. Anyway, when I did decide to come back and check things out, I found that my account had been compromised, which was surprising considering I had an authenticator attached to my account. Now, there is no way for me to prove that I had one and I'm sure there will be somebody to tell me how it's impossible for an authenticator protected account to be compromised. Apparently it IS, because it happened to me. Well, all of my gear, professions, gold, etc were intact (save for the random respeccing the person had done), but my warlock had gotten a server and faction change. When I tried to have these services reversed, I was told that there wasn't any evidence of abuse and that they would be unable to reverse the changes without evidence that my account had been compromised. I guess my having to call Blizzard customer support asking them to change the account holder name, email and password associated with the account back to what they all originally were wasn't enough of a red flag for them that there was something going on.

Calm down, sweetie. I don't care whether people believe I was one of the very few if any who they were actually able to unscramble the password of; the point was that not everybody who gets hacked is hoisted by their own petard. I did acknowledge that having the same password across every internet service you use is a bad idea. It's an absolutely laughable idea to suggest that Blizzard's only way to validate whether someone got hacked is "all their stuff is gone".

This idea of "whose fault is it" is very misguided. A good business does not care. Businesses are there to make money, not assign blame, and if slightly modifying their operating protocol would prevent customers from leaving and result in a net profit, then they should do it. They probably will do it, because Blizzard's a pretty good business.
