    7850

So I have seen many posts on the WoW forums about AMD not getting any love with their G-cards...Well I mean the two components I have should max WoW out without a problem, even the recommended settings is everything on Ultra, yet I crank them down because I like a stable 40-60 FPS, yet I don't get these results...I should EASILY get these results right?!

If I can get some help it would be so appreciated since Blizzard really don't want to answer me or the other people who have the same problem as me :/

*Excuse the title, apparently it just saved randomly*

What CPU and RAM do you have? I'm assuming you also have an ATI 7850, based off the title.

The 7850 is a decent card, but it's pretty much a step up from the budget card 7770. It gets the performance you'd expect from a sub-$200 card. I run a i5-3570K (stock speed) and a 660. The 660 kicks the 7850 around the sandbox, and I still can't max out WoW on Ultra default and keep 60fps (I run Ultra with AF, Shadows, and SSAO turned down). So, I mean.. You SHOULD be able to run 60 on Good, or modified High settings, at a glance.

Yeah sorry, I was to post a video with everything included but Sony Vegas isn't being itself today!
The CPU is an I5 2500k (stock Heat sink)
    And RAM is 8gb (2x4gb)
    And ATI indeed

WoW's engine is really dependant on the CPU.
Also some graphic quality settings (Shadow quality, I'm looking at you!) can really drag your FPS down.
Sometimes the difference between Ultra and High ain't really that visible, but can cost a lot of FPS.. So using High instead could be a great idea.

Thanks for the replies guys, you would suggest anything else? I'll try high settings, it's just I think they don't optimize what the GPU should be used for, so CPU dependent

If this shows anything.. (They use a CPU of similar gaming power to the 2500K.

Wow's engine is heavy on CPU, however that doesn't mean you can use ANY video card.

Notably, I can really barely see a difference between High and Ultra, so it may be worthwhile to just stick with high.

Just tweaked my settings to high, gona run around for a good 10 mins, do a Instance, try and get the Particle effects and lighting to see through itself, I find it abit stupid how a £600 computer I build 3 months ago can run FarCry 3 ultra at about 40 FPS, but can't run WoW on Ultra at that But i suppose completely different ways to run each game, FarCry is perhaps more GPU I don't know....

The easiest thing for you to do is slap a better heatsink on the 2500K and crank that B up to 4.0ghz at least.

    Definitely.

My 3570K (which is for all intents and purposes identical to the 2500K) would get 60FPS on High Default, but drop to 45-50 on Ultra Default. I put it up to 4.0ghz on the stock cooler, and it ran 60FPS on Ultra Default without an issue. It ran a bit warmer than I like it to, but nothing dangerous. I'll likely get a Noctua or Hyper 212 soon, and do it proper. But yeah, for wow, it can make a pretty significant difference, at the cost of a cooler pretty much.

You can even put it up to 3.6 or 3.8 without a problem on the stock cooler and see if that works for you.

Okay, will definetly try it, my current Temp while running WoW on high is around 43 - using RealTemp
So would i be fine to OC it to about 3.6, idle its about 20-30 degrees.

I literally (after my most recent post) checked WoW and temps.

Sitting just above Lion's Landing quest area, I was getting about 60-70FPS @ 3.4ghz, and about 55c temps. I rebooted, kicked it up to 3.8ghz, and am now getting 80-90FPS, with pretty much the same temperatures.

The temp starts going up faster, the higher you go... and my monitor I believe is 60hz refresh... So those numbers are kind of pointless to me, but it acts as a benchmark to how much a free 400mhz can affect wow. I'm probably just going to leave it at 3.8 for now until I get a new heatsink.

Okay thanks, you recommend EasyTune to do the Overclocking, so much more convenient than BIOS i think....

I haven't used easytune... But for me (MSI Z77A-G41).. I literally click "OC Options" and change "34" to "38" save and exit. That seems simpler than downloading and installing a program, and doing pretty much the same thing.

Okay, will report back after a small OC! wish me luck

    ---------- Post added 2013-02-13 at 10:14 PM ----------

I can't OC...I have some stupid 3D BIOS with my new Motherboard, so the option wouldnt let me change it and EasyTune isn't as easy as it looked, or im just seriously simple...
