China wouldn't allow it, they're allies with them, so if you attack North Korea, China gets involved, which in turn means other nations from Europe (Most likely the U.K.) would get involved, which would cause Russia to step in, along with many middle-eastern allies (Iran & Iraq) to start taking drastic action as well.

Result = World War 3.

North Korea is too small and too technologically weak to pose anything more than a single-strike threat.

A preemptive war against North Korea might get China involved, but note that North Korea isn't the "bestest friend" with China that people make it out to be. China knows that North Korea is an economic drag with much too loud of a bark.

Because China are allies with North Korea, and in the past (and still do, although their recent actions have annoyed them) step in for them on the international arena, in events like U.N. Meetings. They also supply large amounts of resources to China, as well as workers and military support.

And, China would never allow the United States to have a strong military force in North Korea. China has been working hard to have the Americans removed from the Pacific, and other waters around China, they certainly wouldn't sit by and let the U.S. militarise Korea.

Even if China wasn't allied to them in any way they would not want a large military action so close to them. Beyond that the countries that are our friends wouldn't take it too lightly if we just dropped bombs on some country and the ones we do not get along with would use it as a launching point to gather up support against us.

Yeah, and most brain-dead conservatives say the same thing without thinking about the repercussions that will unfold the moment our first missile is dropped/launched/guided.

Back in the 1910s, a very important man was killed in cold blood and his wife was shanked and left in a pool of her own blood. This was down by a political extremist group and it ended up forcing 10+ nations into an all out blood bath we now know as the great war, or WWI.

If the north launches, or we do, expect nuclear winter to hit and 1/3 of the world's population to die... most likely that means you and me. Not to mention EMP will wipe out the entire western world alone, and the world's nations will go to war with one another. Governments will fall, winter will kill a few million, and war will claim a few more.

North Korea has about 11k artillery guns pointing directly at South Koreas capital at close range and prepared to fire any time. They can obliterate it in matter of just a few minutes, so they use SK as hostages.
