I've talked with a GM earlier, and he told me i needed to do that quest in order to be able to turn in and collect Dread Amber Shards. I cant however recall which mob i need to kill for it. There is weirdly enough nothing to find about it on Google/Wowhead/Wowpedia.
Anyone that can help me out here?

Any mob in Dread Wastes will drop the shards and the drop chance is really really low

You should be able to pick up the quest from the Sha-Haunted Crystal (the link has a map).
