    Notebook help

Hello, I have recently built my desktop and there are no much money left. I am mainly using the PC for gaming etc, but it happens, that on some days we need to bring our notebooks to college and I am not at home like 2-3 days.

I need it within 1 week so I cannot wait anymore, I have like 450€/580$ left. Sure, I am not excepting mega ultra high gaming, I am mainly playing WoW. I am not a fan of ultra settings, even with my gaming PC I am playing at good.

I need this notebook to be able to run WoW on low/medium and to be able to handle some programming in netbeans and microsoft visual studio, etc...

I am using Windows 7 as I bought it before with my PC.

I found few interesting notebooks so I would love to know your opinion.

Honestly, if the need isn't desperate, I'd wait. The Haswell chip is only a couple of months out. Continue to save some money and by the time September rolls around and a new year of classes start, you'd be able to get a much better laptop. It would do well on graphics. You'd most likely be able to have an SSD drive in there as well.

Well, I dont know if you have read the whole post but yeah. I do need it. The Haswell chip ... it will be expensive in my opinion, I would do well on graphics but I am not willing to buy NB with integrated graphics only, thats why I posted those with dedicated.

Thanks for reply. I will have to think about it but anyway, I would like to know opinion about these notebooks.

I'm pretty sure mobile Intel HD 4000 is able to play WoW on lowest at 1080p. I know desktop Intel HD 4000 is capable of low at 1080p. At $450, you're not going to get much better than integrated. Plus, there's no way you can fit a good dedicated card, a good CPU and 1080p into a $450 budget anyways.

Haswell (without a dedicated GPU) won't be any more expensive than current Ivy. If anything, the prices of old laptops will drop slightly to compensate.

The Intel HD 4600 GT3 that comes with Haswell is expected to be roughly 2.5 times as fast as current HD 4000. I expect it to be on par with the current 630M/640M.

For WoW, the A6 is a terrible choice. The B980 is dual core which is bad for WoW as well. Of the two remaining CPUs, the i3-3110M is the best choice due to its higher clock and the fact that its Ivy. But the problem is that the i3-3110M comes with a 610M.

If a decision must be made between these options, I'd go with the ASUS N55 GT555 1GB because its the most balanced CPU/GPU selection with low resolution (which helps with frame rates).

Thank you for your reply and for clarifying things to me !

Well it does not have to be this exactly, I am not looking for 1080p and I said 450€ which is like 580$. If you know better, feel free to post them, can be US site, I will find it here in a local shop.

Do you think 4GB ram is enough for Windows 7 64bit ? Oh and can you look at the new notebooks I posted ? Its just few bucks more than I excepted.

    1. ASUS-K55VJ-SX031H8G
    2. ASUS-K55VJ-SX031D
    3. ASUS-K56CM-XX203
    4. ASUS N55 GT555 1GB

4GB is fine, but you might hit the limit every so often. Hitting the RAM limit of 4GB isn't all that common if you keep your computer clean, but hitting the limit brutally slows down your computer.

On the other hand, you can always upgrade the RAM on your computer later. A 2x4GB set of laptop RAM costs roughly $50. They used to be $35, but RAM prices have shot up over the last few months.

That ASUS-K55VJ-SX031H8G seems to me the best choice. Do you think I will be able to run WoW on this? at least on good settings I hope
