    [GW2] 8-bit Shenanigans

    The April update page......

    https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-ga...es/april-2013/

    Lion's Arch in 8-bit?
    Pacman coming to Tyria?
What do you think ANet has cooked up for our April Fool's fun?

Nothing will ever beat GW1 April Fool's where they gave Mesmers a buff.

Original Guild Wars prank patch notes:

    http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Feedb...dates/20100401

    Mesmer

    • Blackout Blackout: now a ranged skill; doesn't blackout the caster.
    • Distortion Distortion: added the following functionality: "You have +10 to your Politics and Reporting attributes."
    • Diversion Diversion: spell duration is now infinite; effect on target foe is increased to 120 seconds.
    • Price of Pride Price of Pride: now deals 5...40 damage for each title track the target foe has maxed.
    • Sympathetic Visage Sympathetic Visage: changed functionality to: "While you have this skill equipped, pick-up groups must let you join."
    Sympathetic Visage. Bbbwwwhhahaha.

    Real GW1 players know.

While I agree that their patch notes are great, I really did enjoy the Annihilator quests were pretty awesome. I also enjoyed the stick figures a few years ago. I have to say, nobody does April Fool's like Anet, so I'm looking forward to seeing what both games add.

WTB option to keep that permanently.

Hahahaha this is awesome. An 8-bit April will be so funny. Honestly if this is the theme, it will get my friends who haven't touched the game back just to see how funny it is. Old school gamers can immensely appreciate the throwback, and new gamers will just have to be taught and just know it's cool somehow.

Hehe, glad I clicked the link the on reddit too. I would never have heard it otherwise. I play with music off.

I've always found old videogame music to have a crispness of main theme that is missing in a lot of music where the composers just get carried away by having too many sounds to mix at once. That's why all those old 8-bit tones are classics.
While you live, shine / Have no grief at all / Life exists only for a short while / And time demands its toll.

Listening to this makes me want to go home, open my Final Fantasy music folder, and listen to the awesome 8 and 16 bit tracks. Nostalgia...

And also play like...Ninja Turtles and crap on the NES. Damn...Anet is going to make people cry from nostalgia in a few days.

If they offer an 8-bit version of the Unbreakable Choir Bell I'm going to do cat flips!

(of course it would be an Ocarina, not a bell)

That one time when everyone got turned into stick men just after Gaile left.

"Gaile's gone, now Anet can't afford the upkeep on the graphics!"

    Many a laugh was had.

That being said, this post/thread is full of spoilers.

Scavenging information from all over the place. It sounds like Guild Wars 2 April fools event is going to be lots of fun.

The above video is the chip tune music you will be greeted to when logging into the character selection screen on 1st of April.

So far, we know that a new box has appeared in Rata Sum (thanks to Alunae)

    http://i.imgur.com/I5R4s6m.jpg

There's also this coin I found in game, which links the Super Adventure Box to what we see in Rata Sum

    http://i.imgur.com/XC1PZtC.jpg

And a new tab has appeared under hero achievements for Super Adventure Box.

It mentions babbles, which we've seen in this thread.

    http://i.imgur.com/2RP0v0l.png

We also know this is likely a jump puzzle, or at least made by our favorite designer (brownie points), /user/Ragged_Scrybe. Why?

    http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/c...coming/c8uj813

"...a game within a game". The coins seem to hint at this!

There are also weapons that seem to be associated with this. (thanks Grinds)

http://imgur.com/a/E0sAb (The shield says Super Adventure Box)

And, overall, it seems to be pointing to an 8-bit, game within a game theme.

Personally, I'm excited as can be. I can't wait to tear into this!

Looks like it's going to be Mario/NES themed with a huge jumping puzzle with pixel weapon rewards such as this.

    A Nintendo controller.

    Moto.

Some more pictures of the super weapon rewards.

    Great Sword

    Long Bow

    Mace?

    Shield

    Short Bow

    Staff

    Sword

Also if any one is wondering the reason behind the whole April fools joke.

After those who didn’t like jumping puzzles complained that they rather play Guild Wars 2 and not Mario.

    Anet is giving them Mario.

    Well played by Anet.
