That's not dealing with the customer. That's cooking another steak.

It's a steak you had to remake because some prick is being a little prima donna in the middle of a busy dinner rush.

But you're not having to deal with that prick being a little prima donna. You're just doing what you've been doing all night, cooking food. It's not the same as dealing with that little prick, not in the slightest. You don't have to listen to the snide remarks, you don't have to get glared at and your wage isn't going to be affected by it.

I don't understand how massive tips at high end places could be justified entirely for someone who only moves the food from point A to point B.

It kinda annoys me how tips are becoming (or already are) mandatory. People should only be tipped when the customer actually wants to do so. Else it's not tipping, it's basically paying said person.

So I find it unfair. And to be honest, I wouldn't eat at your steakhouse if tipping were to be truly mandatory. At least here in Holland we aren't forced to tip. :/

If tipping were mandatory it would be part of the bill. It's not except for certain restaurants who do it on large parties. Tipping is not mandatory.

Although some places do mandatory for large parties, there are many states where that is illegal to enforce so you could, if you received terrible service, cross it out and only pay the original cost, if you live in one of those states.
