    Siege Weapons: WotLK Only?

Why hasn't Blizzard added any new siege weapons to the game, or more importantly, why hasn't the developers added siege weapons to the new battlegrounds? So far, it's only the two WotLK BGs that have them, no other BGs do. I was really excited for WotLK because of SWs, but it's really frustrating to see that if I want to play with destructible buildings or SWs, I have to play in the Wintergrasp zone or the Strand of the Ancients BG; no other maps have them.

    Your thoughts?

Nobody really liked them. There weren't a huge success, so Blizzard got rid of them. Also, Tol Barad. It had Siege Weapons.

What? How can people not like them? That's one of the only reasons I bought WotLK; I was hoping to see more SWs

There was no Skill involved. You just pressed Buttons and hoped that no one kicks your Ass while you where in it.

Nobody likes driving lots of vehicles around. When you go through 90 levels and lots of time spent gearing just to jump into a vehicle it feels kind of lame.

Its not terribly exciting for the driver and for the opponents it can be quite annoying to just have to tear through tons of health just for it to respawn in a few minutes.

Vehicles just are currently not fun in their iteration.

Tol Barad's siege weapons were bupkis. You park them and then they auto-kill a tower. might as well have been "defend a mob while he plants bombs to blow up the tower." Strand of the Ancients, Isle of Conquest, and Wintergrasp have REAL siege weapons.

Anyway, I loved Wintergrasp; the seige engines and Demolishers made it epic. It'd be great to have siege weapons back, but Blizzard needs to put in some more giant battleground maps to accommodate them.

To hell with Skill. I love plowing through people in the siege tank in isle of conquest.

They look cool but often they're cumbersome, too frail to feel justified, and piloted by someone who doesn't really know what to do with them.

People don't like to have all their buttons taken away.

What they should do is have more of the quests where use of a vehicle makes you feel powerful rather than hobbled.

I think they had a good one with a demolisher in Borean Tundra.

Conversely, the one in Uldum sucked.

I concur; the only significant problem with SWs was that the maps they were used in were a bit small for them.

Yes, there were technically some in Tol Barad.

Vehicle-heavy combat in both organized PvE and PvP (that is to say, instances, raids, and battlegrounds) did not receive a great deal of love from the playerbase. There were either complaints about not being able to "use" the abilities of the character they'd leveled, needing to "learn" a new set of abilities in order to be successful, issues with vehicle scaling, etc.

For the most part, they were fun when the technology was initially introduced in Wrath, but the novelty wore off.

Particular issues were the fragility and scaling issues of vehicles in battlegrounds, and the heavy reliance on "good" pilots to be successful.

You'll still see vehicles used during questing.

Pretty much this statement here, alot of people complained that it took away from the need for using your class skillset in order to win a battle, which is supposed to be won with a coordinated effort and not using a siege engine as a key component to the battle.

Though to say that it took away from "skill", when pvp is so imbalanced, is laughable at best. So I think its a moot point in that regard.

Then again, regular PVP is just the same.

Promised is putting it a bit strongly. Teased would be more the word. And considering how the ground ones worked out I don't think they were a big loss. But hey that's me, a guy who has SotA and IoC as his two blacklists(AV being a strong contender but given a reprieve due to a lack of vehicles).

I beg to differ. As a Rogue, i can always escape a almost deadly Situation, as a Siege Engine i am glued to a Door i'm trying to destroy while 10 Guys bash at me and certainly will kill me when i leave the Vehicle.

Well considering then that Blizzard has almost five thousand employees, it doesn't make sense why they can't get 5 of them to fix vehicles. Also, I thought that the gyrocopter bombing at the beginning of MoP was awesome. Need more of them! As a mater of fact, I really liked all the battles that involved vehicles.

One thought might be to make them optional, for example, have a quest where you're part of a horde/alliance squad moving through hostile territory, before the quest starts you're given the option of being in the vehicle as a driver, as a turret-gunner, or as part of the walking escort. Whatever job the player doesn't pick, NPCs will take.

I hated them while they lasted, and I'm damn glad they are mostly gone.
I only liked Oculus for being so annoying that you got BONUS for completing it. Wintergrasp was mundane and Tol Barad was SO indifferent from Wintergrasp it's insane. It had no flow and vehicles were so transparent in the experience.

Not to mention trying to balance them; they were either too strong or too weak. By the end of the expansion they blew up too fast imo.

Those were pretty fun the first few times around in the Trial of Champion and then quickly became one of the most dreadfully monotonous routines in the game.

Of course, I was playing that instance on about 4 different toons a day at that point in my WoW tenure -- so that might have had something to do with it.
