I am not going to ascribe a serious motive to it because there is not enough vetted information yet, and I'm not not going to ascribe a motive in jest because I don't believe the situation is humorous to the victims. That is all I am going to say.

What I find interesting about the pictures is it looks like an incendiary bomb, rather than a high explosive.

Yup, theres definitely fuel involved there, which means it still may be accidental.

Sick joke? You got any idea how disruptive these events are? While they bring some additonal revenue, the cost to society is absolutely staggering.

Cities always underestimate the costs of events like these because the cost is in forgone income/resident happiness, not dollars out of the budget.

I doubt it. The finish line of a major marathon doesn't sound accidental.

A CNN reporter did point out that there are a ton a of generators and electrical equipment concentrated around the finish line. It's not impossible that it will turn out to be a terrible accident.

So I can't speculate about the motive behind the explosion (assuming it was deliberate) like everyone else? It's not unheard of for some business owners who are already financially fucked to snap due to things like this.
