Could this be a possibility? You know, you go into a thread and you see a very well detailed and self identifiable response or maybe a post you really liked and you could hit a +1 button?
Just saying... Thought on this?

What exactly would be the point? You can't have the thread responses sorted by score, because the whole discussion would become unfollowable. As for board selfmoderation, I'm afraid it would get out of hand quickly.
If you feel a post is particularly helpful, insightful, or interesting, the best thing to do is post a constructive response - elaborate as to why you think it's a valuable comment, or ask questions, or comment on whatever is relevant to the particular topic. That way you're giving props and attention to great posts while still contributing to meaningful discussion.
Unfortunately, "+1" and "this" posts are just nonconstructive filler to otherwise productive discussions, which is why they're not allowed on MMOC. I can't really speak as to why we don't have general +1/Like voting -- probably forum software limitations -- but a good response is a lot more valuable to the community than a silent thumbs up anyway.
From the S&F FAQ:
Q: Can you add like/dislike buttons to the forums?
A: It's possible that this might be added in the future. The biggest problem regarding this suggestion is simply how large the site is, and trying to find a way to make it work for us. There's no sort of ETA on it happening. (Sources: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.)
