Can we please take care of the extreme poverty in places like Africa where people are starving to death on a daily basis before we worry about the "poor" in first world countries?

I'm pretty sure this is adjusted for purchasing power. The "flaw" is that people in some (usually the poorest) economies produce some stuff that doesn't factor in. For instance, if someone grows corn in their back yard and feeds their family with it, there's a good chance that isn't counted as income or counted towards a countries GDP since there's no money changing hands.

Still, in spite of that, people in most of the countries outside of Europe or North America and a few other places are far poorer than the "poor" in America or Europe.
