International Ice Hockey Federation. They run an annual tournament during the NHL playoffs that includes a bunch of countries as seen in the original post. It's mainly NHL players who didn't make the playoffs / had their playoff run end short + international players who aren't in the NHL.

I guess it is bigger in EU since we do not have NHL

And if you do not know what IIHF is I am wondering what you are doing in a hockey thread It is like asking what NHL stands for in tthe NHL thread

I didn't know what IIHF meant! I figured it might be Hockey but the II and F were like wtf?

You better keep the thread updated with winners, I wanna see what will happen.

I foresee disaster for Finland this year, although Group H is kinda weak so we'll probably make it to the quarterfinals, no longer than that though.

This is by far the worst team Finland has had in a long long time, a bunch of no-namers from the KHL and SM-Liiga.

Russia is going to win it again ^^

Norway will take it all. Thoresen and Tollefsen for the win

I have never understood why European rinks have a car where a whole bunch of seats should be.

The car is only there during the WC. Skoda is sponsoring the event and therefore the car is there. Atleast in "Globen"

What on earth are the Swiss doing?

I know they've been up-and-coming for a while but beating Sweden, then Canada, and now the Czech Republic?

Holy cow, no one expected that :P

Yeah they have had a good team for years now. But they haven't really been up and comming, rather the oposite for the last 3-4 years :P Looking forward to see how we (norway) do against them, we did beat them in the 3 nation tournament with slovakia leading up to the championship.

I think all the teams are a lot more even this year than we have seen in a long time. Two more crazy weeks of hockey, love it!

Sweden making one of the worst game I have ever seen. We should be lucky to get 3 points.
