    Preventing burnout whilst leveling?

So its almost summer and im planning on leveling 3 characters to 90, my 55 mage, 65 DK and a fresh lock. I just wanted to know how I could spice things up while leveling. I always level my ally in Kalimar but maybe I can try Eastern Kingdoms, but most of all I have 4 of those 300% potions but its not that leveling is hard its just I've seen it many times. I really want the achievement of leveling 3 90's in 3 months and having 5 90's that will be awesome. Just don't want to get burned out. Any suggestions?

there is plenty to do to mix things up. do a few pet battles, run dungeons, do some battlegrounds. especially after 5.3 comes out. i would wait till then and start leveling.. or kinda level a little bit here and there until it drops and then go at it full time.

Level with friends, imo leveling with friends isn't leveling (i hate grinding xp by myself with passion) it's just one of the funniest thing wow can offer.

Play the fresh 90 a bit before leveling again, give yourself the profit of your grind.

Play something else, either your actual main or another game.

Do you really need 3 90 that fast ? Is it only for the achiev ? Having lots of high level characters can be overwhelming. Had 11 toon on my old server (5 90 all others in 85-89 range) and couldn't find what to do. Rerolled with four friend on another realm, and it is one of the best time I have on wow since vanilla launch. I still am an altholics but now I really focus on only one chars (two actually one pve, one pvp) and that's all.

    1. level thru random bgs only.
    2. level thru pet battles.
    3. level with friends thru lfg.
    You cared enough to post.

I recently have begun with the leveling spree spread across several characters. Started with my lvl 71 druid last week and she is now lvl 85; I entered Pandaria with her only a few hours ago. Along with her, I have been juggling around some of my level 85 in Pandaria and one level 80 in Cataclysm content.

I got burned out fairly quick by running dungeon after dungeon for hours in a row. It is easy to do with LFG, but it really numbs the brain.
What ever approach you decide to take, really try to change the pace but also style and scenery. Do an instance, do some quests, keep up your pet levels by taming new ones and fighting the wild pets which are in the zone appropriate to your level, do some skilling up in professions, join a battle ground, run some old raids for transmorg gear or what not. Do dailies on a higher level character; to interrupt my leveling routine, I do the Argent Tournament dailies on my lvl 90 hunter to get the mounts and pets for Champion's Seals. It is easy, simple and quick, but a nice distraction.

    Take breaks from WoW.
Turn your eyes away from the screen for an hour or so to let your eyes and also brains take a breather, have a snack, a good drink and just focus on something else. When you log back in again, you'll feel more refreshed than if you were 'taking a break' by fiddling with another WoW character.

Another tip: do not try and get all those three characters to level 85 at the same time. Pandaria becomes very repetitive after you have done it once on both factions. The quests in Pandaria for Horde and Alliance are exactly the same with a few minor details. To switch between three level 85 which go through the same content at the same time is extremely painful and tiresome. Just take it one character at a time; you'll enjoy doing old content once you have gotten one character to level 90.

Music always helps... kinda dulls the fact you're doing something boring during it..

Also, it depends how you'll be levelling, you might want to do each one differently up to certain parts...

i levelled my Shaman healer fully in dungeons upto level 85 (questing as elemental while waiting for queues) and have yet to level him the rest of the way to 90 but i found it a nice refreshing change mixing it up a bit than to quest nonstop.

If you'd like to "spice things up" a bit, as you so put, maybe try pulling more and more as you get more confident in your abilities? It'd work a treat with the DK and Warlock as far as i know.. or perhaps you could set yourself certain rules per level, like Not using a certain ability at a certain level?

Mix in different things - different quest chains with different characters, run instances, do some pvp if you're into that, make sure the characters you're not playing are parked at an inn so you get the maximum benefit from rest-state.

I'd also suggest leveling the DK as a tank rather than dps. You get zero-wait time Qs that way and that will maximize the difference (hence increasing the variety) between the DK and the two dps classes. On a similar principle you might want to level the warlock as demonology spec as that's the spec that least resembles a mage (warlock destruction spec is the spec that most resembles a mage).

Intermix dungeons with BGs, especially at the bracket cutoffs. Level the last 2 levels of each bracket doing BGs, and get the most out stockpiling honor points. Save those "potions" for when you're in the home stretch to 90 (87 to 90). Get yourself a bunch of quests stocked up and then quaff/turn in, and run through the entire expanse of Townlong Steppes and Dread Wastes. You'll have quest rewards that, with any sort of preparation ahead of time in terms of other gear, you'll practically be able to dance right into Heroics once you ding Nine-Zero.

everytime you finish a quest get up and do a little dance irl for 1 second.

record it with your phone and then once ur 90 edit all the footage together and put it to a good song.

These will help a lot. I used one to get from 71 to 78 in just one hour doing random dungeons. The key is to use them during the portion that you like the least. I cant stand leveling in Northrend and the dungeons are too short a the lower levels so it takes a long time to get from 70 to 73 and get to the longer dungeons with more xp. I started with probably about 90% rested on a Pandaren healer. Maybe about 5 wait between dungeons total. If you have a tank/heals combo to chain run you can get farther.

I would highly suggest cycling through your characters for rested XP. You should also try to vary the quests you do as much as possible. If you burn through it you can get 3 chars from 50-90 easily in 2 weeks(3 days each from 85-90). You would probably want to kill yourself after but you would have 3 90s. I dont reccomend that strategy though.

They dont work above lvl 84. The best places to use them are the 70s and 80-85 since those ranges have less nerfed xp.

Level in batches, alternating between those characters and doing other stuff on your current main. Play each one until you run out of blue time for example. Feels less grindy and also it's more efficient in terms of maximising blue XP. But of course play for at least 1hr stretches to get the most out of your XP potions. I recommend using them to speed up late BC and late Wrath leveling as these are the biggest drag. Make sure while using the pots that you DO NOT DIE - they do not last through death. Get gathering professions and gather while waiting for queues, possibly while questing, this is all good XP.

Once you get to MoP I recommend questing with the occasional dungeon over straight dungeon grinding. I got one toon 85-90 purely through dungeons and it was hellish.

Personally I found 80-85 went fast, Cataclysm has a lot of dungeons so you get a lot of dungeon quests boosting your XP to get through those 5 levels. Whereas you have 10 levels to fill in Wrath and BC, and there are stretches where you keep getting the same dungeon over and over (60-62 and 70-72 or so IIRC, although those dungeons are fairly fast so it's not a huge deal). I'd advise 65-68 and/or 75-80 as my ideal potion brackets. Maybe 70-72 as well if you just can't stand running Utgarde Keep another goddamn time :P

Of those 3 cataclysm is the worst. BRC gives good quest xp but Throne has none and you will be running those dungeons a lot from 80-84 when you can finally run HoO, Tolvir and Grim Batol. So in Cata you have 4 dungeons for the equivalent of 8 levels. Wrath is bad until you get to about 74 and you can do Gundrak, Draktheron and get into HoS. And you will run UK a dozen times getting to 72 because its so short.

BC has 4 dungeons you can do from 60-62 all with quest xp. It goes pretty fast for me. The only reason you will run them a lot is because of other people in the group. You will be 74 and can do a lot of dungeons but you will be stuck running Slave pens because theres always that lvl 61 player. When this happens all you have to do is specifically queue for a new dungeon so you can raise your level above being grouped with lowbies. You can probably get to 70 doing each one no more than twice. I skipped BM, SL, the TK dungeons and MgT last time I did this range while getting queued to UB 5 times in a row even though the group was all lvl 74. I think I did Ramps 2x, BF once, SP 2x, all others 1x.

Quit for a month or two, then come back.... that works for many (me including)

i usually do 10 levels of just quests, 10 levels of just dungeons, 10 levels of just bgs, etc. and just rotate that and specs. it wont get very boring if youre leveling a class that can do multi roles, like tank or dps. or dps and healer, etc.

  17. #17
Just level either mage or warlock. Not both.
    They play very similar.

You get rested XP anywhere since a long time ago.
"You also become rested while logged off in the wilderness, but the accumulation is slower. When logged off "outside," rest is gained at a quarter of the rate in an inn, or one bar every 32 hours."

Burnout is what drove the last nail in the coffin of this game for me. Leveled my monk to 65, and gave up on that grindfest. Kill ten rats, pick ten shits, repeat forever. Rotation makes me feel like a robot.

Get as much boost as possible, 80-90 is done in an evening. (deepholm then mobtagging in pandaria)
And damn fast if u got those 300% exp pots.
