4th raid difficulty, Easy Mode, should it happen?

Okay, I saw this idea the official forums a week or so again, and was really interested in it.

Everyone knows that Blizzard releases a raid, makes normal mode semi-difficult, then nerfs the raid by 10-20% at the next tier, so casuals and less experienced guilds can pug/run them. But how about, instead of doing this nerf, Blizzard releases a fourth raid difficulty alongside there raids, an easy mode.

Easy mode will essentially be the instance after its nerfed 20%, but released alongside normal and heroic. This ensures two things:
    1) Raids don't have to be nerfed
    2) Pugs can happen as the raid is relevant.

The gear could be in between LFR and Normal gear. The difficulty will be above LFR and below Normal (Obv). It is pretty much normal mode, but you can do it with worse gear/slightly less coordination.

I can't see what problem people would have with this, as it takes almost no time to implement. TBH, I miss the days of Wrath pugging the first half of Uld and ICC. Same thing doesn't happen now a days with ToT, or even MSV. Pugs are there, but they are rarer. There needs to be a middle ground for people who legitimately don't have enough time to follow a raid schedule, but wan't more to raiding than the botfest that is LFR.

No, definitely not. Normal modes are fine for people that want to PuG a group, and LFR-geared raiders are perfectly poised to both do it and gain rewards.

Isn't LFR practically an "easy" mode?

  4. #4
That would mean that Blizzard would admit that LFR is braindead-easy, and they wouldn't do that.

If normal mode was aimed at the average player, another mode would not be needed.

The issue with raiding at the moment is best summed up like thus -

    Too

    Many

    Mechanics

Wow is up against Millers magic number and cannot win.

    LFR is the "easy mode".
If they were to make a fourth difficulty, it would only distract from the rest of the game and would be a waste of valuable resources that should be put towards other aspects of the game.
With a fourth tier you're looking at things like fewer bosses, fewer BGs/Arenas, fewer lore things (quests zones etc), fewer dungeons, fewer everything - just to have a shitty copy of something that already exists.

    Just no.

If you don't have enough time to follow a raid schedule, use OpenRaid. It's very helpful, I use it all the time as I can't raid with my schedule. I'm always on-call for work, so without OpenRaid I wouldn't raid at all.

Normal mode is not aimed at the average player. LFR is. Normal mode is aimed at the good player who works with their guild to bring down a boss.

Wait, you want something easier than LFR?

Remind your loved ones to never put a NES into your hands; you'll lose your desire to live if you play games from that system.
It's time to level up and quit your newbie ways

Never heard of that addon hmm.

But anyways, it wouldn't take any resources. Its literally Blizzard releasing a nerfed version of the raid so the normal mode can remain untouched. Idk i liked it lol.

    Normal mode is easy mode

Unless you want the fire to heal you and the boss to hug tanks instead of hurt them idk.

Well yes, absolutely and thats the problem.

There is nowhere for the average player who also wants to do something organised. LFR doesn't require any organisation or socialising and normal modes are an impossible, overtuned nightmare with too many mechanics.

Want to do something with your buddies but aren't in the top 25% of the playerbase? Erm well theres erm scenarios..oh no you can just queue for those aoe them down...or theres erm .... transmog runs? There is no group content for a huge swathe of the population. In a MMO. A completely mad situation.

LFR is already easy mode, the only thing they need to do is remove gear from it, or significantly reduce the value of those items (i.e. Tier/trinkets/weapons) so actual raiders who get shit luck aren't forced to run them.

If you want something organised you can run LFR as a raid.

    Normal modes overtuned nightmare............. sigh

Lets not do an easy mode. I doubt the playerbase needs to be further diluted by not being asked to learn SOMETHING when they are raiding to get better at the game.

I'm sure you have a retort to this since you always chime in about this sort of thing but sorry the playerbase needs a challenge if they don't want that LFR is their content route. They have plenty of options and atleast they can raid now.

Personally I would rather go back to SWP/TK days when someone wandered to close to the raid portal and you steared them away with a condescending "You lost little fella, the five mans are over there"

That was the Nintendo 64 that had Superman 64. Thanks for bringing back a memory it took me shrink years to help me cope with.

    exactly.

All my IRL friends quit for this very reason. In Cata, we lost the ability to pug because 10 mans became harder, so they all left the game. Now if I want to raid, I have to hope for a pug to pop up in trade every now and then (most fail before we enter tbh), or make my own pug, which as I said, usually fails before we enter, or after the second boss.

I know people are gonna be like LOLNOOBCASUALQQEASY, but yes, I am a casual who only plays so much a day. I can't commit to a raiding schedule, and IFR isn't fun, what can I do? If you complain at my question, you completely missed something, WotLK was the ONLY expansion with an answer to my question, which is why it was the most succesfull expansion.

This nonsense makes the problem perfectly clear. You have very bad - bad - average - good - very good players, most likely in a bell curve distribution. If the lowest difficulty available adresses the average player, you will lose players, lose money. If on top of that, this lowest difficulty forces you to go in groups of 25 with the utterly moronic 2-6-17 split, while higher difficulties allow groups of 10 and custom splits from 1-2-7 to 2-3-5, you are telling those average players they are second grade customers and after a while they in turn tell you to fuck off. Exactly what happened since Cata and is accelerating now.

The current normals are far from pug friendly, they are among the hardest normals this game have seen in a long time and will make a lot of pugs consisting of "average" players hit a wall early in the instance.

Have you ever pugged normal ToT?

I know! In a game built around socialising the massive difficulty of normal modes is a ridiculous situation, isn't it?

Best thing would be to remove heroic modes (or just give them mog gear a la challenge modes) and make an actual normal mode difficulty based around what he average wow player can do. It'd only be molten core level in complexity but there'd actually be something for people who aren't amazing to do.
