Is it weird that I just can't be bothered to care about this stuff anymore?

Someone does a terrible thing > The media covers it like flies on shit for weeks > Other psychos out there see all the coverage the original person got and get a bright idea > Repeat ad infinitum.

Know what would stop this cycle? Preventing the media from covering this sort of shit with images of the killer. There was a testimony by an FBI psychology... dude... regarding why this happens and how to stop it.

I'd be inclined to extend blame to the people that let disturbed people have guns in that they block attempts to restrict disturbed people's access to guns, and otherwise hinder the accountability of who has guns.
