    Help on my pc build

I have a budget of around $1,000 - 1,200 after converting from my local currency. Components cost roughly the same here though.

I'm upgrading from a 2010 15" Mac Pro running Bootcamp and, man, is it starting to show its age.

I mainly play WoW. But I also do some 3ds max, solidworks, photoshop, and illustrator work on the side. Haha.

    CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
    Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory
Storage: Intel 330 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB Video Card
Case: Corsair Carbide 400R ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair Enthusiast TX 650W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (OEM) (64-bit)

I built this before Haswell though and haven't done much research on that. Prices are roughly the same (with the 3570k i5 costing quite more than the 4570 i5) ... Any advice?

If you get the SSD, get a Blue drive, not Black

Overkill for your system. Kick it down to a 550w max.

Two different CPU's, beyond just the architecture. Intel did a weird thing with the numbering.

    Ivy 3570K = Haswell 4670K (3.4 Unlocked)
    Ivy 3570 = Haswell 4670 (3.4)
    Ivy 3550 = No equivalent currently (3.0)
    Ivy 3470 = Haswel 4570 (3.2)
    Ivy 3350P = No equivalent currently (3.1)
    Ivy 3330 = Haswell 4430 (3.0)
    Ivy 3220 = No equivalent currently (i3 3.3)

The underlined ones are really the only ones you would normally purchase.

I would say it looks pretty solid. I would pick up a 660 instead of the 650 ti, though, only a 30-40 dollar difference and you get a decent boost in performance and though the 650ti is a great card per dollar spent, the 660 is a little bit better.

As for the PSU, I wouldn't go lower than 550. Yeah you might spend an extra 20 or 30 dollars now for wattage you don't need but I've always been of the opinion that out of all your components, extra PSU wattage is something that could very well pay off in the future. Just because you don't need it know doesn't mean you won't need it in the future if you choose to upgrade and find you don't have enough power, then you have to spend more money on a new one and rewire your whole system. I went overkill when I got my 850 because I didn't know better at the time, but still, I think leaving a little extra wattage is reasonable.

Oh, yeah. Hadn't thought about switching the WD Black for a Blue. Thanks!

Will probably stick to the 650 psu. Would probably see me through several upgrades in the future.

Still not sure about the Ivy vs Haswell thing. I wish I could get the 4670k but it seems all that is available in my shop is the 4430 (~$184) and the 4570 (~$199). -_- The 3570k btw is ~$225 here.

upgrading the GPU would put me over budget ( difference between the 650 ti and the 660 is more like $80 here :/ )... but I could offset that by ditching the SSD, sticking with the WB Black, and saving the SSD for a future upgrade? Would that work?

The 3570K is still a dang good CPU. I haven't seen enough reviews about Haswell to not convince me that, for ~$50 cheaper, it's pretty much 'about as good as haswell'. I have one (3570K) and expect it to last me 3 years before another big upgrade. I still recommend it to people with a slightly tighter bidget. It's a bangin CPU.

Honestly, if you can fit it in with a 500-550w PSU, I'd do it.

The thing about the PSU is .... Even if you upgrade later, your actual power demands in a system don't go up. Hardware is getting better and more efficient, and your next upgrade ~2 years down the road or whatever... Will probably use about the same, if not less power (unless you go SLI, but, eh)

ARe you getting these locally, or from a website there?

Oh yeah, hadn't really considered future developments in energy efficiency. You've gotten me convinced, good sir.

Also, I'll go with the 3570k

I'm going into a brick and mortar shop in the mall and buying them from there. May also have them assemble it there as well. Ordering online and having stuff shipped isn't quite the norm here yet. Haha
