Seeing as the moral of every single faction conflict so far has been "stop fighting and work together," maybe they should just get it over with already.

I don't think I would mind either way, but I would love it if at the very least we were allowed to play any race an just pick our faction. The reasons for most of the races to be on horde or alliance are very old, let them choose individually now where they want to go. I play horde because that's where all of my friends are, but I'd love to play alliance races instead

Simply merging the two factions takes away too much of the story and atmosphere of the game. However, I would like the ability to defect. That way, you retain the factions at war and every character only belongs to a single faction, but it would still allow more racial choices even if your friends and guild are Alliance or Horde.
That is not dead which can eternal lie.
And with strange aeons even death may die.

Part of me would want to quit, since I know how the wHorde players are in real life (and worse in game). But then again, that WOULD mean Alliance would finally get some in game lore...

Wasn't Metzen going on about how MOP would be the ramp up of the red v blue?

I'd be disappointed if that was all over and done with after the siege, it sounded like we were going to get more out of it than that.

Varian has tried several times to make peace with the horde. The attempts just keep getting derailed, first by Onyxia then the twilight's hammer.

I fucking love the banter, the rivalry, the flame wars, gloating as i dance on a rivals corpse etc

all that would be gone if they merged the factions and just had one faction

Killing nameless dragons gets old real fast but raping your enemies city while you spam gloat is fun to me

Infighting within the new merged faction, new alliances, eventually breaks off again.

Varian and Jaina have repeatedly, even after Jaina's breakdown, made it known that they're open to peace with the Horde. Lor'themar as well. Lor'themar's primary concern is what's best for his people--as seen in the 5.1 storyline, he was even in talks with Varian to defect to the Alliance before Jaina began the purge, and sounds more regretful than pissed that Jaina's snap judgement has pushed his people back toward the Horde. If anyone would be the ideal voice for the Horde in a coalition, it'd be the born politician Lor'themar.

Sylvanas simply doesn't give a damn. That's the up and down of it. If a coalition would hold the best long-term conclusion for the Forsaken and for herself, she'll go with it.

.. are you suggesting that the horde is played by genuinely worse people irl? really?

This brings up questions like, What about PvP servers? What about BGs? Would Blizz redesign zones where Horde and Alliance are in combat? Would the Horde be welcome in Alliance cities, villages, quest-hubs, etc and vice versa? Would we merge the AH, too? Would this drive players away and lower subs even farther? Or would this be actual world change that would mean something and reinvigorate game play?
PvP and BGs would still make sense, as there's plenty of history to justify border skirmishes and the like. Personally, I want to see this happen. Not just because of story reasons (both the Horde and the Alliance are good guys, it's annoying seeing them fight, especially when there's much bigger things to worry about like the Burning Legion and Azshara and the leftover Scourge and everything else), but because of gameplay reasons. Merging the factions (at least playability-wise, not even necessarily in the story), would finally allow everyone to play together. Servers with imbalances wouldn't have the same concerns anymore, and you wouldn't have to worry about friends and guilds migrating from other games being split by the divide. Plus, maybe it would help the really annoying faction bias I've seen so many people have in real life. Seriously, I have yet to meet someone in real life, who I discover plays World of Warcraft, not make fun of what faction I play. >_>

All I have to say is "Welcome to Warcraft Lore!"

There are so many inconsistencies, its not even funny.

I don't think the two factions should merge. Personally, though, I wish there was a system in place to allow someone to defect to the other faction (obviously a one-time deal).

Without Garrosh as a warchief, the war would make no sense outside of Sylvanas still having a grudge for what the humans did to her.

Rift has done a pretty decent job of a faction merge. Might want to look up how they did it.

But this is the ONLY reason they are kept seperate... LORE.

Outside of Lore 2 factions adds almost nothing to the gameplay of Wow. They might as well all be on the same team tbh.

Either Blizzard should merge the factions or actually add some features to the gameplay where both factions actually play directly against each other... atm battlegrounds is the ONLY place in Wow horde play against Alliance.
