Look Dray, I don't know what to tell you. All I know is they keep increasing the server caps, the servers keep filling up. They've doubled the map capacities and I still end up in overflow - even on a frikken Monday night I was in overflow for an hour in Queensdale and queued up for over an hour for WvW and I don't think I hit my home server in Lion's Arch all weekend. When they lifted culling momentarily in Frostgorge this last week, it was clear that there's more people playing now than were playing at launch.

NCSoft should be releasing their quarterly report within the couple weeks or so, let's see what they say.

You;re confusing my stance, I am not saying the game is not popular, what I am saying is that Anet china have released dodgy figures that actuallly undersell the popularity of GW2 and yet you defend it. Lets just be happy that we agree that the game is popular.

It should be said that "increasing server caps" in of itself is not a barometer of anything. The way Anet have their servers/game instances/logins set up has a lot to do with the supposed "cap".

That's true of a lot of games- like when a recent LOTRO xpac came out I read news of "server caps raised!" Yet relatively speaking, that might not mean a whole lot depending on the reality of the situation.

I will say that I notice GW2 is extremely lively! Pointing to "server caps" and units sold isn't very concrete, however. Almost none of these MMO companies are telling the whole truth about their user base. Take such things with a grain of salt, people.

2.5 M out of 3 are still playing? Right, that's exactly why mine and my friend's "High" population realms are a ghost towns.

Not everyone sits in town, there are fractals, pvp, wvwvw, dungeons, event farmers etc. Look at WoW, for instance Bruning Legion-EU is a high populated realm, but i saw almost noone in the lvling area (even with the cross-realm thing), cuz ppl are spreaded out in a lot of activities (dailies, lfr, lfd, pvp, arenas etc. )

Wait wait wait...are you saying people actually play the game? I thought they just logged in to sit in town!

I always find central hubs a detrment to an mmo, shame gw2 went with one like every other mmo

I know you guys have had the same circular arguments before, but you do understand how tedious it gets for some of us to see posts repeatedly calling someone out? Debating the numbers is one thing, but internet one-upsmanship gets old.

People like to know how popular the game they play is, which is especially important in mmos, an mmo with no one playing it really doesn't work. Like you say there is also the my game is more popular than yours mentality.
I know a lot of people that left a game because "my friends were playing WoW and I wanted to play with them", but I wonder at what point WoW's decline will make that no longer a factor. (Not saying "WoW is dying!", just wondering at what point the "friends are elsewhere" threshold is.)

With GW2's porting system, it seems like folks would be at nearly any point in the world at any given time, so a central place has it's advantages. Depending on how the dungeon finder is put in, it may impact whether folks are wandering in the world or sitting in LA waiting for a queue.

True I just hate making a valid point and being ignored lol, forums are my way if stretching my epeen because I'm way to cordial irl. I think I crave karizees attention because he sidesteps me all the time oh and also because I'm sure he has a direct line to Colin.

I saw Colin make a comment in chat on the recent EU Tournament stream on twitch, I responded and he made a comment on my response - does that count as 'direct line'? ;-)

2.5 million people do NOT play Gw2... In fact it wouldn't even be close to a million.

How do you know, do you have access to those numbers? I doubt it, so I'm going to dismiss you as an uninformed hatemonger

Guys, please relax. No one's anecdotal evidence and forum posturing is anymore valid than the next guy's anecdotal evidence and forum posturing.

Address and discuss posts respectfully or not at all.

Meh, I bet those 2.5 million players are logins per week not UNIQUE logins per week, I love the game but having such a high retention rate is impossible especially with so many options out there. Lets be realistic folks.

I hope I'm posting in the correct area, but after deciding to buy gw2 I have one question : is it really filled with so many login screens as it used to be when I tested it half a year ago? All I remember is staying in those dreadful login screens when I moved from one small zone to another.

ps: What would you recommend as a starter character for a beginner?

  19. #99
You mean loading screens? Yes, they are still there. Because the game world in not contiguous. Each zone is a instance.

I have actually been playing again recently. I played heavily during beta weekends and the first 3 weeks of the game then quit very abruptly when I was fully geared and all I really had to do was shoot fire at walls in WvWvW. I decided to make a new character a few days ago and I have been enjoying myself with it. I expected the population to be significantly lower but it still seems very healthy to me (I'm on Maguuma). Those are some very good numbers if they are accurate.
