I wouldn't do that really, it's not much gold per laurel. If you don't need the ascended gear it's probably just best to hold on to them for now. Same with karma.

True there is almost nothing to spend gold on except legendary and fuck that waste of time. I would just save laurels if you have ascended, or start an alt.
